Hey y’all! This is my second post on here and I just wanted to say thank you, I’ve learned an incredible amount in a small amount of time reading through this page. My question for today is, what would be the best place to pull ignition power from to install an Amplifier? I need to run the “remote” wire for my amp. I’ve seen some people post a picture saying there’s a grey wire on a plug somewhere you can splice into, and I’ve seen some people use add-a-circuits. I just want to make sure whatever I end up doing is clean, is one better? And also, what fuse would be best to tap into underneath the dash fuse box?

Your best bet for something like an amp is going to be to use an IGN source to signal a relay to an appropriately sized run.

There is an IGN source easily accessed via an add-a-fuse to use to turn the relay on with ignition on. Add a properly sized run for the Amp from the battery, run through the switched terminals on the relay, to actually power the Amp. Consider also a dedicated clean ground for the Amp at the same time - good ground is fundamental to electronics, especially sound systems, and it frequently gets overlooked.

    This will be much cleaner

My first question would be is are you adding the amp to the stock system or an aftermarket radio? If aftermarket then run the turn-on wire to the output on the radio. If stock then I still usually tap into the switched line behind the radio so that if I ever do install an aftermarket one the wire is already there. From there it's just a matter of running the porper size power wire to the battery, with the correct size fuse at the battery, and then using the same gauge wire for the ground.
