Used Alu-cab price check

Ran across this Alu-cab Contour for 3rd gen long bed, asking price is 3k. Haven’t seen it but seller says only issue is light pin stripe scratch or two. I don’t see these pop up often and was wondering if it’s a fair price?

 

I have the same one in 6ft model. It really depends on your usecase and location imo.

If you have any questions, or want me to kinda list out more pro/cons of it let me know.

 

My original plan was a pop up like the Project M, Oru Designs or Topo but they are out of my budget right now and older slide in pop ups are just too damn heavy so I’m leaning towards a small trailer but would also like to have a bed cap to keep stuff dry and secure

 

If you're looking for a storage then no, I wouldn't get it. That's way too overpriced for your purpose.

Since you already have an ultimate end goal to get a popup, just get a cheap used cap for storage for now and save that money.

One thing I have not seen mention anywhere during my months-long research before buying mine:

• The cap is very boxy and is NOT flush with the truck. Because of that, the cap will peak out on the top two corners and create "cat ears" when you face towards the front.
  I can't prove it, but I'm certain that thing is acting like a wind capture and made my car feel a bit sluggish on the highway.

 

i ordered mine back in june for full price. got a call that it is finally in this week and need to schedule an install.

from what i read, there isn't really anything cheaper unless you can wait for another used shell. im not sure how frequent the 6ft caps show up either.

 

im not sure what you mean by not flush with the truck. like where it sits on the bed rails and meets the tailgate? or just those 'cat ears'? it's pretty obvious from all the pictures the corners are gonna extend past the body lines of the truck, unlike the rsi cap

 

That’s a long lead time. Used tops for the 3rd gen long bed don’t come up for sale very often

 

yea its twice as long as i was expecting.

im not sure how fast the long bed caps sell, but you could probably sell it for the same you paid for it when you want to change if it, if you want to later down the road.
