Like the title says, im buying wheels. Getting way overwhelmed with information. For starters, im only buying new wheels because my stock OR alloys are dirty and scared from almost 300 thousand miles of use. Not a huge fan of most aftermarket wheel designs, as im old and most new wheels are just too "busy" and flashy. So I've had my eye on the TRD SEMA style wheel. You can find these wheels literally everywhere on the web for cheap. So not wanting cheap knock offs, ive been leaning to (not dead set on) buying from a Toyota dealership. Dealership pages show that this style wheel in a 17x7 size will not fit my 2nd gen Taco. I always thought there was virtually no difference in 2nd and 3rd gen wheel fitment so that left me confused. I found the same wheel from other outlets (some are 17x8 or 17x9) that says it WILL fit my truck. And then I'm reading reviews on these sites that say the center caps are crap and break easily.
Then, I look at new lug nuts. Most of mine are half stripped and look horrible. Can't find a black lug nut cause Toyota sites say it "won't fit" but that's probably due to the style of rim they THINK I have and not the style of wheel im getting. I see where discount tire says they have lug nuts for aftermarket wheels, but im not really getting an "aftermarket" wheel, but a factory style.
Yall calm my nerves on this. I really feel like I'm putting way too much thought in it, and making things more complicated than they are.

Yeah, just get some used OEM 2nd gen wheels from Facebook market or whatever. Get some plain lug nuts and yer done. No need for flashy TRD wheels on a 300k vehicle. Save your money for the next one, but that’s just my opinion.

@MudFlap many forum members have gone with the DX4 Beast because the TRD Sema wheels only come 7inch wide, so you are limited to how large a tire you can go with in the future. The DX4 comes 8.5 wide and has Black or Bronze for finish.

The dealership pages don't tell you what will fit what, it tells you what parts came on what vehicle. It does not mean they are not compatible if they aren't listed. The Sema wheels never came on the 2nd gen Tacoma so that vehicle won't be listed for that part. They do, in fact, fit just fine. Tons of people here run them.

IMO the OEM version is better than the aftermarket, but I like skinny wheels. 8-9" width isn't a benefit IMO, it's a downside. But if you're planning to run 285's or 315's then maybe the wider size is better. If you're gonna run 255-265 tires then I'd stick with the 7" wheel personally. The higher offset is also better for preventing rubbing.

For lugs, you just need the OE flat-seat lug nuts. There are some aftermarket black options discussed here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/black-lug-nuts.638041/

Relying on the dealer pages for precise detail isn't a good idea, those pages can be riddled with errors or confusing info. Best to actually call or go into a dealer to ask questions. Many (if not most) dealers nowadays will sell parts online at discounted rates. I call or visit my dealer for questions and then order online for the discount and pickup in store. I've found it's beneficial to have a relationship with your local dealer parts dept.

I like the SEMA wheels, I don't see why they wouldn't fit on a 2nd gen. The hub bore is the same.

That said, those DX4s look to be $30-50 cheaper than the SEMAs depending on where you source them, at a weight penalty of only 4-5 pounds per corner. That could save you 120-200 bucks. It will also have a hair more poke when you factor differences in width and offset.

The Semas will fit fine. If I wanted Semas again, I would go with them and not a knockoff. I too like the 7" width as opposed to the wider 8-9" of others. What I don't like about Semas is the +4mm offset. If they were somewhere more around +15mm or so I would run them.

They will fit and work fine for your truck, go for it. As stated you will need flat seat "mag" lugs. I can't give a recommendation on black, my only experience with lug nuts was changing my factory 2-piece chrome to factory 1-piece chrome. I have seen black OEM flat seat lugs listed before though. They're probably the ones the dealer said won't fit, and they should fit just fine since the Sema wheels want that style of lug.

Check your tires on what wheel width they recommend for your particular size. My tires say 7.5-9.5 so I'm assuming 7" wouldn't be compatible.
