I would describe it as a “whirring” sound or high pitched humming sound that is NOT CONSISTENT (it comes and goes at varies speeds and various scenarios randomly). It *kind of* sounds like the diff that others posted videos about but mine isn’t consistent like theirs and it’s not as loud. It’s only audible for a second or two per occurrence. It seems to happen more below 45 degrees Fahrenheit and it DOES NOT stop happening when all the fluids are warmed up. Pretty weird.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try to engage 4x4 and see if the noise changes next time.

Front diffs arent common but it does happen from time to time.

My last 2023 sr5 did this exact noise that you’re describing . Between 25-45 mph. It sounded like it was the right rear of the truck. Was never able to figure it out.

Interesting. Mine seems to happen more when accelerating from a stop but it happened randomly at all speeds, really. It sounds like you got rid of that truck and replaced it?

Got rid of it for multiple issues. Bought another 2023. This one is much better so far

I engaged 4x4 and drove on a straight road at about 40mph for over a mile. I went into 4Lo and drove slowly up a small hill too. The noise did not go away.

It is definitely louder when it’s cold outside. It’s almost like a whistle.

Best of luck man. Ask the dealer for a Toyota “field tech” to look at your truck it’s really your best bet.

Might be weather stripping not sealing. I ocassionally get a whistle sound in cold weather with strong cross wind on the freeway.

I thing there is a TSB for this. If the noise is in the rear of the truck. They install some sound deading material in the cab corners and replace a bushing iirc.

    EDIT: the TSB is T-SB-0045-23

I’m almost certain it’s mechanical. I’ve noticed that it almost always happens around 1,800 RPM when softly accelerating. The rest of the time is totally random. Weirdly, turning left sharply makes the noise disappear entirely for a while…then it comes back.

I did see the thread for that. It applies to double cab trucks only though (I have an access cab). Almost all of the people who posted about it said they heard the noise over 50mph. My truck is dead silent at those speeds. My noise only happens under 30mph 99% of the time.

"Turning a certain direction makes it go away", sounds a lot like a wheel bearing going bad, but that would be odd for a new truck. Would still be worth checking out though. Toyota is not what is used to be.

I considered that too but, after driving it a bit more, it is almost certainly coming from the driveline somewhere. It occurs just before the shift points as you can hear in the video every time when the truck is cold. I thought it was the rear diff at first but now I’m pretty sure it’s the transmission…

Do you happen to remember if you could reproduce the noise by revving the engine in park/neutral? I just noticed that it works for me which leads me to believe it’s more engine related than transmission related. It’s just louder when under load.

Really appreciate the help so far. Thank you.
