Anyone have any experience with swapping the front disc calipers on a 2009 5lug auto to some thing other than the stock ones? I'm mostly interested in it for increased clearance for aftermarket wheels that have a broad mounting surface.

    Here a couple of pics:

What are the specs on the wheels you're trying to fit (bs , offset)

I got them to fit with 265/75R16s, with no suspension mods but in the front I had to use a .5" spacer and take a little off that bridge you see in the photos. It's 85-90% of it's original thickness.

Anyways, I'm not safety wise concerned, but would prefer just having the rims mount up. Thought someone might have done a front caliper swap on the 2nd gen 5 lug, have you heard of anyone doing this? I like the look of the calipers on the 6 lug, figure this weekend I'll pull a template of the mounting holes, go to a part store and see how they line up.

What are your thoughts? Any advice? Nice truck you've got yourself; looking forward to checking out your build in greater depth!

Unfortunately, most of the front brake swaps are for the larger LS460 calipers and IS-F rotors and require at least 18" wheels. What you are running into is with the design of the wheel, the mounting seat is not much further back than the disc of the wheel.

Nevermind, just saw your other post and saw that it's the seat that actually hitting the caliper. Wheels designed for cars tend to fit the 5-lug setup better as they are built with the smaller clearances in mind.

I was pretty much going to say the same. The only caliper and rotor upgrades I saw was big brakes which needed like 17s - 20s. 15/16 are hard to do much in unless you go $$$$ with a custom wilwood setup that's not worth it. I did see some similarities with old Lexus stuff and ours. I was looking into swap my calipers for some is300 caliper but they are bigger than our stock ones.

I've pretty much always ran some for of a spacer and eventually you just forget about it until you take the tire off.

Yes! I've seen these, they always looked "too much" for me and the lower sidewall of the 18"+ rims doesn't help either. It'll be nice to see how far off the 6lug calipers are. I'm sure someone has tried (done) it but now we'll have some photos.

What do you mean "bigger"? Cause something I was wondering about is keeping the stock rotor size, I've been looking around for a rotor dealer that has a catalog with rotor dimensions in it. Would be much easier to find one that's the size of the 6lugs and has our stud pattern, but right now I'm assuming that I'll need to go with the stock size.
