I consider 300,000 miles getting your moneys worth on a vehicle and you’re pretty darn close. You’re the original owner, let someone else enjoy it. You got your money’s worth. 3rd gen 4runner are my favorite gen for sure. Had a 2002 and loved it till 313,000 miles. Also use some of that money to buy your wife something nice. Im sure she wont complain then. Best of luck!

It was just talking stages at the point of the "offer". We are friends and make small talk all the time. Not a handshake deal by any stretch.

My neighbor bullshitted me about selling his 80 series to me for almost a year and a half going back-and-forth. it always ended with him thinking about it. One day he just asked me “are you still interested” and I told him I have the cash if he has the title we will make the deal right this damn minute.

That’s a beautiful truck but it’s the mileage that would concern me. I have my 86 2wd Toyota pickup that I bought new, it now has 360,000 miles, I’ve gotten asked quite a few times if it’s for sale, we never even ever get to a dollar figure, I just say not for sale

Keep it. I have a neighbor that keeps wanting to buy my ‘04 for his teenage son. First off, it would kill me to see someone else with what I’ll always consider my truck and knowing it’s not getting the love and attention it deserves. And I really don’t want a pissed-off neighbor if the thing grenades in 6 months. You know your truck and the time, energy and money you’ve put into it keeping it running and looking like new. How could you even think of selling it?

The more I read posts from this site the less likely I will ever sell. Hence the reason I throw out topics like mine, you guys are the best!

And FWIW, there is not near the forum activity seen here on the 4Runner forums..................

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Perhaps you should adjust for 415,000 miles before you account for inflation. To buy a base model run of the mill pickup. Get half a million miles out of it then to be offered more than the purchase price new that is still greater than half of what a current new one costs. Yeah, complete fool. When I purchased one in 1997 I made less than $5.00 an hour. I am sure the vast majority of people make a much higher wage now don’t they?

It all depends on what $20,000 means to you. I've enjoyed that truck for 27 years and thought I don't drive it as much as in the past as I have two other vehicles, I still enjoy the hell out of it. A lot more than I'd enjoy just another $20,000 sitting in the bank or an investment instrument.

Wrong. But alas, if you can afford it. And it makes you happy. Who am I to judge. You buy a truck, you drive it for 415,000 miles and are offered more than you paid for it at more than triple the market value. Regardless of what you have. Not flipping that depreciating asset is foolish. I own many vehicles also. Three trucks, a Tahoe and a corvette. The only way that is an acceptable circumstance is if it in fact has some serious sentimental value. We can agree to disagree on this but no argument against this logic will prevail.
Also, damn nice C8! The cockpit of that thing is a spaceship.

I think it’s simple enough to state that the offer of $20,000 for a regular cab truck with crazy miles is way above what 99% of people would offer him for it. Who cares about inflation or purchase price. Doubtful it would move for $8k on Tacomaworld.

    Work in progress...
Sold my son's Ranger to the neighbors across the street for their son. The kid is in college now and drives the Ranger home a few times a year. It is really good to see the truck and know it's still around. My son is in the Air Force, 6 years of so now, the Ranger was his dream truck and I was so glad I could get him the FX4. Anyways, it's not always bad seeing a vehicle you kept on the road. I did put some work into that Ranger.
