Funny thing is last year I got a wild hair and I replaced all fuel lines and vent hoses....and purge valve...

Then few months later got this code .....it would throw each time I passed below a 1/3 a tank...

I reset it maybe 5 or 6 times....

Last time I just left the CEL on, and a month later it just went off on its own....

Everything is new on mine except for the canister, and filler neck.....

O'Silver do you think that the code could be caused by a torn intake hose tear?.

That would make the truck run lean.....

so your fuel trim would go sky high...

You know everything has to work together as a tight band....

    maf.....ecm....fuel press....O2 sensor....all has to work together..

Vacuum leaks, clogged injectors, failing press reg, can all cause wild swings to the ecm trying to cope.....

even a bad ground...any of the dozen of em.....can cause a bad day....

These trucks are becoming less and less an ideal daily commuter...

These are quickly becoming hobbyist trucks.

to have any hope.....you have to go thru and replace the obvious.....

and find any stuff that was 'mickey moused' before...

heat and time can cause a lot plastic and rubber decay.....
.....and because all that's black....its not so obvious...

    CIMG4806.jpg

Unfortunately most just run these into the ground....
reason why this forum has so much traffic...

its amazing how many are running around with the original steering, tranny, and brake hoses...........happy....to the end....

    • I got my 99 as a repayment from a co worker who couldn't repay me some money he owed me. Could use a new carpet and reupholster the seats. That's the big job but other than that, just little things to replace

Yeah the blue is not so they're pretty....its easier detect decay in the future...

I have zero chance of a vac leak.....short of the brake booster...

I was thinking of lifting it up about 6 inches after i get all the little stuff done and maybe repainting it. I really like the original dark green.

Easiest thing to check is the o ring around the gas cap. Second suspect is the Charcoal canister that's behind your battery. You can unplug the purge valve and test the solenoid with a 9v battery, if it clicks its working.then inspect the hoses going to and from that canister and take this hose off of the purge valve, connect a longer one to it and blow onto it. If you hear air leaking your canister is likely cracked. If it's leaking take some soapy water and spray the lower corners of the canister where there is a seam that might be cracked. If you have a cracked canister you can take it out and put some FPIG sealant on it to fix it
