More wife creations.

After the baby blanket puppy she made a croched dog that looks like her coworker's real dog and now everyone wants their pets.

 

Needed to build a phone holder that doesn’t block AC.
Keeps both cup holders open.
Nothing stuck to the windshield.
Nothing stuck to the dash.

So, made a insert in the cubby that still keeps the cubby open..







Quickly Removable
No drilling required.

 

Clever solution. I like it

 

Not exactly something I made or created, but I did finish a project.

My grandfather was a self-employed accountant and bookkeeper and ran his business from an office in his house. He kept this little toy steam engine on his desk as a conversation piece and every once in a while he would start it up for us grandkids to watch. This was back in the 1970s.

In early 1978 the house caught fire and burned. A week or so later my college roommate and I drove to go see the house and survey the damage. As we were looking through what was left of the house, my foot kicked something in the ashes. It was the little steam engine. The wooden handles on the controls had burned off and it was covered with soot but otherwise seemed to be in sound shape. I tossed it in the trunk of my car and we headed back to our dorm.

That evening, we completely disassembled the little engine down to its last part, scrounged up some Comet Cleanser and some old toothbrushes and had at it. When everything was clean and polished we put it all back together again. The next day I found the appropriate fuel at a local hobby store, filled up the water tank and fired it up. In about 15 minutes the little engine started chugging away like it was brand new.

I later showed it to my grandfather and we has just tickled to death that I was able to get it running again. It was then that he passed it on to me. I then kept the engine on the coffee table in my house.

In 1989, my wife and I moved to our present home in Virginia. Like all of our belongings, the steam engine was packed into a cardboard box. When it got to our new house, the box along several others got put on a shelf in the garage and in all the hassle of moving in, it was completely forgotten about. Over the years I wondered about it every now and then and what had become of it, never mind that it was in my garage the whole time and staring me right in the face. No, the garage isn't the tidiest room in the house.

Last month I was doing some Clean Up and Throw Out exercises in the garage and what do I find but this old Hammermill paper box with the words Steam Engine written on the side in faded Magic Marker ink. I opened the box and there was the steam engine. It had not seen the light of day for 34 years but I had finally found it!

It was still pretty much in the condition it was after I salvaged it from the fire. So I decided to do a complete restoration. Here it is.

 

I built a Candlepin Bowling Ball spinner to resurface them.
Built the Variable speed controller out of a light dimmer.

I know its an old post but my buddy was married at Two Medicine Lake, beautiful place!

 

Made these little trinket dishes at my mother's request so she could dole them out as gifts. Wood is Peruvian walnut, the darker one in the middle had a coat of walnut oil on it, which they all received. This was my first project that I got to use my new laser etcher on, good times

 

He who has the most toys has the most fun.

The kids and I had our first go at making home made bath bonbs today. Grapefruit scented. Turned out pretty good but the next round we make will be smaller.

We put little toys inside. You can see it peeking through.

 

That's pretty neat! How does one go about making bath bombs?
