So Warn is selling out their stock of some Evo winches with steel cable. I bought one with the intention of swapping the line to synthetic.

I pulled the steel line off and I saw some scratches that I can feel on the drum. How smooth should the drum be for a synthetic line? I can't feel any burrs but I can feel the scratches. I thought I could hand sand the scratches but they are too deep to completely remove them.

If anyone is interested the deal is noted in the Deals & Coupons forum in the Black Friday thread. Mine with taxes came to $450 and I applied for a $150 rebate from Warn. In addition, due to faulty wireless remotes, they included only the wired remote but there is another coupon for $100 off products on the Warn website.

That wouldn't bother me at all with a synthetic line.

Yeah, if you plan on using the winch less than 8000 times, Those scratches are literally nothing to worry about.
