So my old man purchased a used set of Yokohama Geolandars and they are a bit larger. Stock tires on our 2009 Tacoma 4-cylinder is 205/70/15 but the tires we bought were 215/75/15 so I’m wondering if the tire pressure specified in the door jam of 30 PSI in the front and 33 PSI in the back still applies?

Thank you in advance and sorry for the dumb question.

Does the door sticker have a P in front of the 205 and do your new tires have a P in front of the 215?

You will need different pressures most likely but whether the tires are P, SL, or LT determines all that.

The tire pressure won't change with that small difference. The number on the door jamb is a GUIDELINE, not carved in stone, and a good place to start for best ride. There is also a number stamped on the tire. That is for hauling the max weight rating of the TIRE, not necessarily that the truck can handle that much weight.

I experiment with PSI and find that a few PSI over what is on the door jamb works best for me.

If he went from Ps to LTs, it will. The tires he bought appear to only be available in LT. Proper pressure for them would be 35 psi all around, not 30F/33R.

If you like to go over the door jamb then you would want even more than that on a set of LTs.

Hi, thank you for this information! It was getting late last night and I didn't want to go out in the rain again to check, but you are correct. They have the "LT" in front of them.

So I guess I'll use 35 PSI all around. Thank you again!

Use the pressure calculator recommendation, which would probably be more than 35psi.

The calculator is what I used to come up with the suggestion to begin with. It’s 35 all around when going from a P205/70/15 @30/33 to LT215/75/15.

My bad, I didn't realize the smaller sized tire being used :)

A bit of a side question but the TPMS light comes on. Any ideas? Perhaps the battery is starting to go ok the monitor?

Set tire pressure, then reset the TPMS system via the button and drive around a bit. Unless that’s 3rd gen only, but I’m pretty sure it’s 2nd and 3rd gen.

Is there a round button at the bottom of the dash trim panel below the steering wheel? The 3rd gen definitely has this, I’m assuming the 2nd gen does too.

I shall check tomorrow. According to https://www.moderntiredealer.com/industry-news/service/article/11529324/tpms-2006-2016-toyota-tacoma I need Toyota Techstream?

I’m assuming from the fact you’re telling me to press the reset button that it’s not necessary.

I’ll provide an update tomorrow. Thanks again.
