Whether it be a Gen 1, 2, or 3 the Tacoma is an incredible vehicle in many ways. Frame rust, however, for many owners can be as pervasive a defect as the Tacoma's ability to hold its value is incredible. One of our TacomaWorld members, @Dennisi01 however, has been able to find and restore his frame rust problem with the help of a remarkable product.

A company based in Cranston, RI, USA, Autorust.com specializes in restoring rusted vehicles to roadworthy condition using their patented Safe-T-Cap kits. These kits are designed to be functional repair sections for the vehicle’s frame, and they are shipped internationally to anywhere FedEx and USPS delivers. Autorust.com also provides a unique service in their Rhode Island service center, where they sand blast the frame, cut the rusted sections away, and weld the Safe-T-Cap kits to the frame.

However, autorust.com does have a list of dealers and installers that carry and install their Safe-T-Cap kits in various states, such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. These dealers and installers are independent businesses that are not affiliated with autorust.com, but they have experience and expertise in using their products. You can find the contact information and location of these dealers and installers on the autorust.com website. You can also track your autorust.com order status using the tracking number that you received in your order confirmation email.

Saw the post by Dennis and very impressed with it. I've recently recommended this to a friend who's in a similar situation

Well said @saf023 ! I cannot recommend autorust.com enough and would recommend anyone dealing with frame rust issues to seek out their authorized dealers if you are able!

Toyota completely replaced my 05 frame under a recall. Not sure if it’s still active, but look into it.

I was able to move the front cab mount 2 inches up by hand
Rear bed frame could be twisted easy by hand
6 dust pans worth of rust fell off since working on it.

Weld on helpers might be ok for some rust damage but the engine cradle needs to be strong or front end alignments will never hold.
If rear frame isnt strong, you will have wish wash steering no matter how tight everything is up front.

Your are right but if they are a trustworthy expert opinion as to whether their kits are a worthwhile answer it seems like it would be worth it. Their solution may not be perfect but sure seems like it is way ahead of whatever solution is in second place.

Ask @Dennisi01 if he feels they overstated the work that was needed. It sure seems like their technicians were looking for a safe and reliable way to get him back on the road

    Fwiw, these aren't ehlp
The front and back was checked and they are solid.. fwiw they cut the bad stuff out until they got to good metal and replaced with the replacement pieces.

My saving grace is the truck has not been a DD for the past 5 years, so has had extremely limited exposure to salt and slush in that time. So the rot wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I am looking to have this done on my dads 08 Trd Sport. We are from MA but now live in SC, in the Charleston area. Any reccomendations?
My 05 was covered and replaced under warranty but unfortuantley his is not. The truck has plenty of life left so I would love to get this repaired.
    Thank you
