    I was attempting @mjhenks
4WD Dash Light Hack. Illuminating the light after a J-shift 4WD conversion. | Tacoma World
    and @Area51Runner
4WD Swap How To - Wiring 4WD indicator light and A/T P (Neutral) light | Tacoma World
without success. My truck is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma PRERUNNER Double Cab that was converted to a 4wd with a J-Shift T-Case, A/T, 3.4L V6. I was attempting to follow Area51Rrunner mod to have a 4wd indicator light and A/T P (Neutral) light. I will explain what and why I did what I did and hope that someone might have a tip to help me complete this wiring correctly.

Initially I followed Area51Runner mod to the letter. I was working off of the wire connector group located just above the glove box. I hooked up ground where he indicated and then connected the Neutral Switch wire from the T-case to the Blue Wire as shown in his write up. I then connected the lead from the 4Hi and 4Hi T-case switches to the GREEN/BLACK STRIPE wire as shown in his mod. I added the necessary bulbs to the gauge cluster and hooked up the battery. The 4wd indicator light did not activate and neither did the A/T P light when shifted from 2wd to 4hi and 4lo. Again, I hooked everything up exactly as his write up showed. You can see the Blue wire and Green/Black Stripe wires that I tapped into here showing the door side of this connector block above the glove box:
    upload_2023-11-17_19-46-36.png
Here is the opposite side of the same connector block that would face the center of the dash:
    upload_2023-11-17_19-48-7.png

As you can see, there are no wires on the opposite side of the Blue and Green/Black Stripe wires.

I confirmed continuity from the plug connectors on the T-case for the 3 switches to my leads that I routed into the cab, so the harness I made is good. I then checked for continuity where I hooked up my leads at the connector block on top of the glove box between the blue wire and the pin on the connector of the dash cluster at the 4th pin from the left side (purple wire) which leads down to the A/T P indicator light. There was NO CONTINUITY. I also had NO CONTINUITY from the GREEN/BLACK STRIPE wire to the pin on the brown gauge cluster that lines up with the 4wd indicator light. That wire is the 4th from the right and it is GREEN/BLACK STRIPE shown here:
    upload_2023-11-17_19-49-49.png
    upload_2023-11-17_19-50-25.png

At this point, with the key on, all of dash indicator lights lit up as they always had, except for the A/T P and AT Oil Temp lights which had never lit up because they did not have bulbs. They still did not light up after I added bulbs as far as I can tell. I don't have the correct temp gauge overall noting A/T P and A/T Temp. Also, the 4wd Indicator light was not coming on. Yes, I added a bulb here as well. I should have stopped and asked the forum for help or clarification as to why my wiring in my truck seems to be different than @Area51Runner and @mjhenks but I didn't.

So I began checking for wires that had continuity between the gauge cluster pins described/pictured above that would light up the A/T P light and the 4wd Indicator light. I searched nearly every wire on the truck that I could get to. The only wire I found that had continuity with the Brown connector green/black striped wire (4wd indicator) was located at the ECM in the second connector from the right side, middle row/second from the left edge. Pictured here:
    upload_2023-11-17_19-54-27.png
That Green/Black Stripe wire that I tapped into is in the middle row and second from the left side of the connector. You can see the open slot in the ECM that this connector goes into in the upper right portion of the photo. I connected my 4wd T-Case switch lead here.

I then found a purple wire on the glove box connector block that had continuity with the A/T P indicator light. That wire is pictured here were I tapped in (top connector, bottom row, 4 pins from the left, purple wire):

So after hooking up my harness leads to these wires that I tapped pictured above I turned the key on and all my indicator lights were still functional at this time. I then started the truck. The transfer case lever was already in 4hi position and the 4wd indicator light was on when I started the truck. I then shifted the T-case into 4 low and the 4wd indicator light stayed on. It also stayed on when the lever was in the Neutral position. I do not know if the Neutral A/T P indicator light turned on as I don't have the correct overly on my temp gauge at this time. I did not notice a light illuminated in that area of the gauge. I then shifted the transfer case into 2wd and that is when all the lights in my dash and gauge cluster went out. I heard like a click or something near the center of the dash or right side area of the dash, I couldn't really tell where it came from exactly. I did not see any smoke and did not smell anything like burning or smoke. The truck was still running. I turned the truck off and turned the key to the on position. The only indicator light working was the SRS Airbage light:
    upload_2023-11-17_20-13-4.png
The high beam indicator light works as well but nothing else. Not even the mileage odometer.
I then checked all the spade connector mini fuses and found the 10 Amp GAUGE fuse had blown. Changing that fuse brought back my cluster lights. I disconnected my T-Case lead for the A/T P Neutral switch from the purple wire and left the 4wd indicator lead hooked up to the Green/Black Stripe wire shown above at the ECM. My 4wd Indicator light now works as it should and the fuse does not blow when shifted between 2wd and 4wd.

Sorry for the long-winded explanation but I wanted to try and give all the information necessary for someone who might be so kind as to help me with their knowledge of how I might be able to get the A/T P Neutral light working the same at Area51Runner did?

when you tapped into the purple wire you grounded out the gauge fuse when you shift into park or neutral.

check pdf for list of fuses and whats connected to them. All your lights that are inop connect to the gauge and panel fuses.

I just don't understand why tapping the blue wire like Area51Runner did doesn't work on my truck for the A/T P light to function? How do I find the correct wire to tap into for that?

For that light to function trans has to be in park and transfer case in neutral.

Thank you so much for taking the time to address my problem. At this point I had just given up on the A/T P Neutral light until reading your comment this morning. Went back out to the garage and reconnected my tap to the blue wire, put T-case and neutral, Tranny in Park and the A/T P light is on. Any ideas why my first attempt at tapping the Green/Black Stripe wire on this connector above the glove box didn't work to illuminate the 4wd indicator light? I had to tap it at the ECM and it is functioning correctly now, but why didn't it work at the glove box connector? I did check the tap and I had continuity to the spade connector so the connection on the tap was good.......
