Been reading these boards for the last couple weeks or so and been noticing that some of you guys are on top of changing and replacing regular wear parts. It's got me feeling inadequate and some kind of way.
Owned my truck since it was new, and put right at 270K on it. Besides the very basic maintenance (oil, brakes, tires) I've only replaced the spark plugs once and the serpentine belt once (both at about 175K miles). Now, im wanting to change out ALL the fluids (brake, rear diff, radiator) and put fresh stuff back in it. I've never even replaced the shocks. So that's on my to do list as well... I guess I've just been real lucky that it's a Toyota and it just keeps going. But I haven't really noticed any kinds of problems before to have a need to replace stuff that's working.
So... what do think I need to start with?

    None... yet.
I'd start with the easy stuff first like coolant and brake fluid, and go from there. Just be mindful, plan ahead with a maintenance chart/log, and be careful of getting too much into a "It ain't broke, so I better fix it!" mindset. This site will get me thinking that real easily if I let it! :D

    What engine/trans/drive train you have?

Browse through the stickies, find the maintenance recommended schedules.

It’s good you realize you’ve fallen into the neglected category. Quick and easy will be to pull the plugs, regap to spec, look and see how badly worn they are, put them back in. Clean the maf sensor with crc maf sensor cleaner. Just those 2 and it’ll probably start running better.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air and should be replaced. Gear oil in the differential, transmission, transfer case is going to look like hell.

After that tackle a little at a time. Shocks are probably worn. Try the bounce test and look for cupping on the tires.
