Snuck out of work early and went to get some closing video of the grom for the video I'm working on, snagged a pic while I was out there, too. I really like this decal setup. 20231117-DSC00850.jpg

Dont even get me started lol

Nothing drives me up the wall more than clients who call in and give me requests over the phone. Aside from the hassle of interrupting my workflow to take a call, people don't seem to understand that in real estate, EVERYTHING needs a paper trail, or at best things get forgotten, at worst you open yourself up to very expensive liability. I have one specific broker who is guilty of doing this all the time. I had to call him out this week actually and get a little curt with him to explain it.

TGIF, hope you guys all have a great weekend of riding! I"m taking possession of that R3 tonight!

I retired just about the time they were shoving "teams" down out throats. Glad that's all in the rear view mirror.

I work in IT and With recent changes to compensation at work (negatively impacting my bottom line), at this point I literally refuse to do work without a ticket (University, 450 staff/faculty 4kish students). Just no way I can keep track of things nor am I motivated to do so with recent pay changes.

Grom is lookin good, needs a front fender tho IMO.

Yeah, I need to figure something out. Especially since I’m currently like seven tabs deep on a search for snow tires for it haha

Just get some aggressive knobbies and wear some skis. You provide the stability with the skis, and it provides the go. :bikewhoops:

They do, europe has a lot of options for scooter sizes, state side it's slimmer pickings.

I'm looking at this: www.mitas-moto.com/en/products/scooter-tires/scooter-winter-tires/mc-32-win-scoot , which has the option and pre marked spots to run studs with it. They're pricey little guys though, we'll see how xmas shopping goes and if I pull the trigger on a set or not.

Anybody using one of those Android/Carplay displays for the bike?

A Chinese company contacted me and wanted me to test one out and give a MC review. I don't normally pimp myself out like that but this was something I might use so I figure I'll try it out and make a vid of what I think. The phone I use is kinda pricy but takes great pictures and I need it for that. I don't want to hang it on the bars on my dual sport bike so something like this device has some appeal. The pixel 8 pro stays in the pocket protected from vibration and I can use the stuff I need off the phone as if it were on the bars. Normally I always use a dedicated GPS (Montana) which works fine but it's dated, the tech and software is kind of old school clunky.

    [IMG] s

Last trip to Utah in the truck I started using the Gaia app off the phone viewing it through the display on the head unit with android auto and I liked using it. I'm hoping this is a way to do the same thing on the moto and not put the phone at risk.

I've been sitting here couch testing it and it's not bad. It's kind of slow to boot up and start playing music (40sec) but that's a first world problem, I can live with 40s if it's all automatic when the bike fires up and it looks like it is. I've heard of problems getting two separate bluetooth devices to talk to a phone at the same time but so far that's not an issue with my setup, the sena works normally. I can control the music on the carplay screen or from the helmet. I use Topos and follow tracks and my built in nav won't display topos in the truck. For GPS I'm using Gaia which has a decent topo base map. I can Select/Follow/Record GPS Tracks and create waypoints from the carplay screen which is all I need while I'm on the bike. You can also run typical google maps with TBT directions.

The device appears use a stripped down ver of android 6 with a 5' Screen, IP68, 1000nits (according to them). I wanted to check how much power it uses and according to my power brick it pulls 1W or 83ma which is pretty low. The power cord uses an inline 12V to 5V regulator so the device runs off 5V. The power connection to the box is a molded plug held in with 2 screws.

I hope this works out, I can easily see it replacing my garmin on the DS bike.

The mount is some type of impregnated plastic, seems strong but a serious crash would probably damage it and it could probably be twisted off. The 3 mounting screws would be easy to adapt to a typical visa mount. The unit itself is pretty stout, I could see it surviving a typical crash, maybe not a full on yardsale.

Once I headed down this road I've come to learn that most apps aren't carplay compatible, there's not allot of apps written for it and some of an apps features don't carry over to the carplay screen. As far as I can tell with this they're using an android 6 phone with a 5" screen and putting it into a ruggedized package.

I'm going to throw this on the 500 and I may try it out sunday.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Just use it while you’re stopped. I remember putting something on my bike that was a bit of a distraction,..it some bull shit like “Turn Right Now” and I was like WTF.
Needless to say it made me realize that less can be more when it comes to Nav.for me. It’s nice to reference, but most certainly not to stare at. Am I the only old bastard that still has a paper map in the clear spot on the tank bag?!

I started off with paper maps in a tankbag years ago but haven't used them since I first got a GPS, to me a GPS is way less hassle and paper maps aren't practical for some of what we ride. I have them for planning and I'll carry one as a backup but it's rarely used. A fair amount of what we ride out west isn't shown on anything but a topo map and it might be on one topo and not another. We cover allot of terrain on these rides and topos maps for a 900mi ride is at least 1/2 dozen separate maps, $$ and space. I'm a luddite for some things but not when it comes to navigation.

When it comes to off road all I need to do is glance down to see if I'm still following the track. Road or trails are shown if it's a known path and the GPS has topo's for the entire western US at your fingertips.

The current setup clips on to the big bike and works just as well on or off road.

I mounted it up this afternoon. The mount forces it to be positioned about 3 or 4" above the bars, not want I want for riding through woods. It'd be fine on many bikes but it's too tall IMO for the dirt. I'm going to test it like this and if it's usable I already know of a much better way to mount it. I'll need to make a small piece though.

He’s 9 now, but was 6 when I got it for him. He’s always loved it, not rallies up steep little hills and then shreds going down. At big bear he rides the pump track at the front.

Did a bunch of motorcycle stuff today. First I moved the SAE power connector to the left side of my Versys for the heated jacket. There's a lot of excess wiring slack but that's probably good in case I forget to unplug the jacket when I get off the bike.

    upload_2023-11-18_19-33-7.png

Then I cleaned and oiled the Versys' and Grom's chains. I was too lazy to adjust the stand for the Grom so I just tipped it over. Stunt bike life. :D

    upload_2023-11-18_19-34-6.png

Then went ahead and bolted on all the fairings on the Triumph.

    upload_2023-11-18_19-34-38.png

Then wife and I went riding and it started raining, and the jacket kept me nice and toasty the whole time. I actually didn't need to use the heated grips since my torso was so warm. I love it.
