I'm new to my area and very dependent on the navigation from the app, however lately when i hit navigate to any trail it asks google or apple maps, and neither option works. Anyone else have this problem? I've restarted my phone and the app and nothing fixes it. I also just tried to go on their website and their customer service chat window doesn't work either. Pretty unimpressed with it being the only app i actually pay for.

Bunch of stuff bolted on, some cool, some not
I've been using the paid version for a couple of years and haven't had any problems, lol, not as if that helps you at all. Are you using Android or iPhone? (I'm on Android). Potentially re-install? In Android there is the option to delete cache data for the app as well. If the website doesn't work and you can't get in touch with customer service, I might consider switching. I have heard a lot of folks on Apple say Gaia is pretty good, however I have personally never used it. That sucks to pay money and have it totally non-functional.

Have you tried the Track/Record feature? That is typically what I use when I'm out on the trail. Another tip is make sure you download the maps before you get on the trail. If I don't open the app until I'm way out in the woods with no service, it doesn't work for shit. If I've got it open and tracking when I've got good service, it will cache enough but downloading a map is the best bet in my experience.
