I am but a lowly peasant. Not of the mechanical trade. I own a trusty 2013 Toyota Tacoma. She has served me well but recently, the driver side door lock would not electronically function so I would have to lock it manually and lock the rest of the doors electronically. After a mighty battle, taking the door apart, taking the actuator/door lock thing apart, replacing the actuator motor and finally putting everything back together, my spirits where lifted as I anticipated success. Disaster struck as for some reason my beloved Tacoma is rebelling against me. The door will now lock and unlock electronically but for some reason it is opposite of all the other doors. In other words, when the drivers side door locks, the remaining three doors unlock and vice versa. I have taken everything apart and put it back together multiple times trying to figure out how to remedy this issue. After many hours of trouble shooting, I am at a loss. Me and my Tacoma have also gone to couples counseling, we have started dating again, even with all these attempts to rekindle the love we once had she still seems to flip the bird to me every time I try to lock her up. Please help.

Is the motor on this one somehow wired in reverse?

Is it possible that this actuator exists in only two states when engaged (binary) (locked and unlocked).
And when you installed it it was in locked state and all the others were in unlocked.

I would disconnect it. Switch the other locks to the opposite state they are currently in. Then reconnect the actuator

You could swap the lock and unlock pins on the connector

Is the motor good on your old one? Or was that the reason you were swapping it out?

i would get a new lock module. if it does the same thing, it's worth changing the other 3. if it works as the other 3, then the one you have is defective. either way, more parts are needed.

    My thoughts exactly . . .

I'd advise against swapping wires or buying parts at this point, especially if you're not 100% sure of what you're doing. You KNOW there's nothing electrically or mechanically wrong with the new lock because it locks and unlocks, just out of sync with the other doors. I'm no expert but this is what I would try:

    Look at your picture:

Note how the worm gear has the round gear all the way clockwise against the stop, the round gear can't go any further (and might damage the threads or teeth if it could.) The only reason (my pea brain can think of) that Babylon 5's idea didn't work is because when you reconnected, it may still be trying to rotate clockwise. Many motor circuits can tell if there is resistance, when it encounters resistance the circuit tells the motor to turn the other way. Hence the opposite action of the other doors. (Disclaimer: not saying I know that's what's happening but in theory it could be the case.)

What I would try, if you can, is one of the following. 1) reconnect the plug while it's out of the truck and work the key fob/lock until the round gear is turned by the worm gear until it rotates counterclockwise against the other side of the stop, then unplug, set the other doors in an open state, and reassemble. 2) manually turn the worm gear to do the same thing. The worm gear and motor armature should turn easily, but it's going to be very slow going. The third way would be to figure out the + and - pins in the lock and "tap tap" it with 12v to get the motor to rotate the gear.

Once it's rotated (see my hacked illustration) re-assemble and give it a try.
