I don’t have to ask for help with automotive issues often, but I’m stumped this time.

I have a 2018 TRD OR 6MT with 70k miles. I’ve had a Magnuson SC on it for about half of those. It’s been pretty great, but the SC is hard on the truck.

A few weeks ago it started idling hard when the AC kicked on. It holds 900rpm or so like it’s supposed to, but it hates it. The engine shakes enough to make things rattle in the cab.

A month ago it started making a high-frequency vibration noise near redline. It sounded like something loose on the exhaust to me, but after more testing, I don’t think it’s coming from there. It’s too loud to track down while holding the engine at 6k…

The problems aren’t necessarily related, but they could be. You know how it goes.

It runs ok at low idle (AC Off), but maybe a bit rougher. It runs fantastic on the road at any speed. I feel zero loss of power, there are no signs of missing or pinging. Just the vibration near 6000 rpm (before the rev limiter).

    Here's a list of things I’ve checked.
-DTCs: There isn’t a single code being thrown
-Vacuum leaks or unmetered air: I’ve tightened and checked everything I can find.
    -Clean the Mass Air sensor
-Removed supercharger belt (the noise and rough idle still exists without the belt on.
-changed the spark plugs (they all looked perfect and tan).
    -removed all heat shields/smash plate
-checked the oil level. I still need to drain and check for shavings I guess.
-checked for blow-by, there is none.
-checked to see if idle quality changes with direct injectors engaged (it does not)
-checked to throttle body bolts and made sure it was clean inside.
-removed the MAF sensor plug and tested the truck on limp mode. The idle still sucks. Couldn’t text for noise because rpm is limited to 4K in limp.
-Lastly I reflashed the ECU with a fresh tune. There's no change.

I’ve taken it to a local shop and the mechanic said “sounds like engine or driveline to me.” (Yeah no sh*t Sherlock there's literally nothing else it could be lol)

I’m hoping you guys have some ideas of things to check. Otherwise, I’ll be at the mercy of the dealer who will blindly throw an engine at it without doing adequate troubleshooting…

I still haven’t figured this out. I have confirmed it’s not the AC. The roughness exists when manually revving to 900rpm too.

I have allowed the ECU to fully relearn. The idle is unchanged.

if anyone has a suggestion I’d welcome it. I need to see if I can find a way to get a data log. That may shed some more light on the situation.

Problem has been remedied with a motor mount replacement.

Just curious, the motor mount fixed the idle, the noise, or both?
