I just bought a brand new 2023 tacoma I have less then 2000 miles on it and somehow dinged my tailgate which I don’t care about to much, but I noticed rust today when washing the truck. Is this something I should be worried about

would this be under warranty by any chance, would save me little bit of $$ and time

I would get the rust off and spray can the spot. It’s not big and if done right you’ll have the small dent but no rust. Mask off and use the can spray. It’s got a break on the left and top. It won’t take much

Yes, make sure rust is not under the paint, it looks like it is. W40 spray it and try to sandpaper it very carefully, dont damage paint.

Get a touch up pen … clean the rust and fix the minor spot

rust on bodywork is almost always something to be concerned with.
and No, that damage is not what the warranty is designed for.

    Don't let the rust spread.
You can cover it up with a couple of dabs of touch-up paint in no-time after sanding and getting down to clean metal.
It will be hard to address the ding, but it is tiny.

That is a self inflicted ding; wear & tear damage. Warranty will not address

I keep a bottle of clear nail polish ( wife alway wonders what happens to it) in the truck with some 600 and 1200 grit for temp fixing while on the road. I have used it quite a bit in the last 7 months on the road and nothing gets through the nail polish once you prep it. Also easy to remove when back home if full repainting is required.
