When I was renting I picked up a Cabrio for the wife (most fun car ever, to drive and work on) on which the oil housing leaked, so until I got time to work on it I had to have one of these. Now it goes under the truck even if I'm not changing fluids to catch dirt and crud falling off the truck. Relevant because rolling around on a creeper does not like crud on the floor.

I don't even try . . . I take it off even just for an oil change. I did find though that it's a lot easier to drop the skid plates as one piece rather than just taking the front and back off separately, got tired of futzing around trying to get that clip thingy at the edge to line up right.

That is what I do too. 7 screws and drop the whole thing. The OP however said he has an All Pro skid which apparently is a pain to R&R.

Use these instead. They're absorbent on top and plastic-lined on the bottom so that leaks won't get through.

Yeah, but in the rust belt that's the only part of the frame that looks like new.

that's why the older Gm cars and trucks had a vertical oil filter, straight up and down. easy peasy. These dam horizontal oil filters are going to run oil down your arm and anywhere else gravity will pull it to.
