so.. i retired 10/9/23 and was looking forward to many days in the field. Prior to my retirement, which was delayed by 3 months due to lack of a suitable replacement (which STILL hasn't come to fruition) I inadvertently ran into a fire hydrant at work (walking) and tore my left rotator cuff.. moving forward to after 10/9/23, all was good except the unusually high temps, and the fact that the canopy, at that time was still full. A friend of mine, lives in a small town Crocheron Md. in the middle of and surrounded by expansive marsh land and the elusive Sika deer and asked me to come down and check out the stands that he has set up, and see if I was interested in hunting there. I respectfully declined, but his persistence and my stupidity won out. Now, I have hunted the "area" in the past, maybe 20yrs ago, and wasnt a fan, due to the extremely difficult (for me) terrain, potholes from logging that were unseen underwater etc. Well my dumbass feel 3 times in that terrain, and yeah, trashed my left shoulder as that was the closest hand/arm to the marsh. So i sat out to let my shoulder rest-up, and missed a whole week of decent (finally) weather. So i finally thought i was good, and went out and sat with my x-bow a couple of times, saw a few deer, but no shots. On 11/14 i was packing my truck at 4:00 am, when i stepped off the edge of my driveway, thought i was gonna fall, and obviously, and instinctively flailed my left arm thinking i needed to catch myself, which i didnt need to. After about a 10 minute crying time...i jumped in the truck and headed to my spot, all the time wondering if i was going to be able to dress myself when i got there. 20 minutes it took to put on my outerwear and boots. Got up into the stand, and after about an hour and a half, I had a mature doe coming towards me and I thought, freezer first amirite? and proceeded to attempt to raise and maneuver my bow from the left of me to in front of me....couldn't do it. So i sat there and pondered, WTF am I doing here ? So i got home and called my doctor and they said we can give you a shot, but there would be a 3 month delay before i could have surgery...... So that would mean sometime in March for surgery....nope i aint going to miss all of my springtime fishing, I am having surgery 12/19/23 not real happy about it, but....

Dang that stinks. I’ve had my battles with my rotators. Even sleeping was painful. Best of luck and hope you have a strong recovery.

I’ve always hated going to Doctors and always put off things that needed doing. The older I get, the more I’ve changed my perspective. Having had 4 hand surgeries, 2 on each hand and having had 2 stents in the ole ticker, I now appreciate having done what I put off for so long. Good luck to you Murph and hope you have a speedy recovery. We all want to have some good, healthy years once we reach retirement.

Finally found time to put a feeder out on Sunday, also put a camera up as we haven’t hunted this property before. We’ve been doing a good bit of thinning to the underbrush where we are planning on building and changed a decent bit about the property but there is still wildlife around.
So we put the feeder out on Sunday and saw this the next morning.

Went last night to put the shoot house out and these were last night and into this morning.

not to get long winded but my youngest son only gets to hunt a few days a year due to work and having kids. nobody was happier than our bunch when he got one just at last lite tonite. had a stud coming to him Saturday and a new guy on our lease shot one out from under him. lets just say that guy knows my name as i was headed to river barn to wait on my son to come out of new tripod we put in the CRP. and this shit shot one from the road 150yds from my son.better believe he wont be in the lease next year.he was all sorry but told him to save it. didnt want to hear it. soo back to the great moment. My youngest with his deer. Im soo happy. he hunted my stand this morning and let a little 8 go ive been seeing. God’s blessings are great
