Hello there, I have a question that probably is not specific to the Tacoma Lifestyle shift knob but just the idea of a jam-nut and any shift knob.

When you put on some of these aftermarket shift knobs with the jam-nut as well, they hit a point where they become tight with the ability to keep twisting. It is okay to continue twisting past that point until it lines up or is that stripping the components underneath? I have noticed that if I have mine twisted on, no matter how much past that point I go (whether an extra half turn or even stopping right when it starts getting tight) it will always only take maybe 1/8 of a counter clockwise turn to loosen it up. I just want to get the thing on and not have it undo itself after a few weeks of driving. I have ordered a new one that will utilize a jam-nut and want to make sure I am putting it on there correctly because I feel I am missing something and making this way more difficult. Or maybe I am overthinking it, and the knob is supposed to undo with easily with a twist in the opposite direction.

Small dab of thread locker, not the permanent stuff

I saw some threads about that on some Mustang forums. I also saw plummer tape, and then maybe going to blue loctite if that's not enough.

Plumbers tape is just bad, doesn't even hold as well as say a nylock nut.

Just a little bit of thread locker and you'll be good.

Good to know, I'll try that as soon as it gets in.

Curious if you know, would the loctite stuff I put on go on the jam-nut or the threading of the chrome bar that goes in the shift knob?

Whatever threaded shaft you're putting your nut and/or shifter on.

This will keep both in place.

There are different types for differently applications so again make sure you don't get a permanent one.

Got it thank you, I'll look into which to get specifically.

The Red thread locker is permanent and you’ll have to heat it up to get it to come apart. Blue is serviceable and holds in place but takes some effort to get it to break free.
