Poor gas mileage

That is my default screen.

I don't need to be looking at a second speedometer.

 

It’s funny you mention that, my default is the digital speedo and economy bar. I set it up initially because I wasn’t sure what else to put there, and now relying on the analog speedometer feels archaic.
I mean, I can read it like an analog clock face, but I guess I’ve become lazy and complacent

 

Wow, that's bad. I got 18 almost 19 on my 03 4runner, car was 19 years old xD.


Are you keeping good maintenance of the engine? and putting okay fuel?

 

Cera Tec by Liqui Moly at your next oil change. You will need 2 cans. Often increases mileage by 1-3 mpg.

This is just highway mileage, but pretty damn good considering I’m on 1.5” lift / 32’s. Had to keep it under 65 mph.

 

Valvoline advanced oil also worked for me, was hitting 19MPG on my 03 4runner with over 160K miles.

 

As stated, use the "current MPG" screen. Your habits, good or bad, will be exposed quickly.

I just drove 400 miles each way, over a variety of roads ... here is example of how even "behaving well" fails on certain roads ...

> a couple of stretched of road that were mostly flat and were definitely paved but were crappy glued cobblestone dropped mileage to 18.5-ish ... right foot patterns could not solve. I know this because I saw the changes to more recently-paved smooth road and MPG increased.
> Dead-straight smooth no other cars road I increased tank MPG to 22 just be using CC and accepting it would be 30 more miles regardless.

In short ... driving habits help, but some terrain will never be overcome.

i inflate my tires to 38-40 psi. i believe it helps.

get your front end alignment checked and unless you need snow tires or aggressive AT tires, run a highway tire or mildly aggressive AT tire.

as others mentioned, keep up with the maintenance and filters and anticipate when you will need to slow down rather than brake.

i average 20ish MPG in the winter and 22ish MPG in the summer. most of my driving is two lane roads at 45-65 mph. i recently did a 2000 mile round trip and averaged about 20 mpg. i had a few hundred pounds in the bed and cab, and speeds were often 70-80 mph, which was the posted speed limit.

 

Get a Kia for gas mileage. 20-21 with my truck 45 with my Kia hybrid. Truck sits 75% of time for now. If I only had the truck I’d trade it.

 

I get 15 but I'm lifted, 10 ply 33's, bed rack, full roof rack, and rtt, ha.

I don’t get the mileage to empty except when I turn the truck off. I get the mileage bar and digital mph. I guess I need to change setup. Ideas?

In all seriousness, it's a big heavy box, with crappy aerodynamics. No matter what car makers claim, it's not real world numbers.

 

I get what I think is pretty good gas mileage. It would be most great if I didn't drive the way I do. My radar detector has paid for itself many times over. Over half the time the FHP will sit in their little pull off spots, and not even have radar going.

I don't get good gas mileage, and I'm probably never going to.

 

Keep a constant drag on the emergency brake to keep from driving too fast, it takes a while to show improvement, but after the 1500 miles the, the computer will adapt and booya = prius. Oh, drafting! Tailgate everyone you can at all times to reduce wind drag. And only fill up to a quarter tank, you don't need extra weight that you aren't using. Speaking of weight, no fatties. Obviously, results will vary but you can't go wrong with advice from the internetz.

Don't trust the digital gauge. It's inflated by 1+ mpg over a manual calculation.
