Hey everyone, searched a bunch and couldn't find any info, here's my problem: (2018 4x4 trd sport auto trans)

While truck is at a traffic light it, when I accelerate the truck revvs the engine, but 1 second later the gear comes in and just makes the truck go, but it feels terrible, like if it were in neutral and i would rev the engine the hit Drive, you can feel the gear going in very abruptly. does at as well while going on a steep uphill, if i leave the gas off for a second and then accelerate it will do the same, like revving the engine then the gear comes in.... gears are not spinning or making any noises, just this weird issue.. and it is not consistent, but it is there, any ideas or sugestions??

Has your 2018 had the transmission TSB? See post #10 on this link for the TSB. Also have you checked you transmission fluid level?

I would for sure start with checking the level or honestly even at your age, if it hasn't already been done just change it all together and go from there.

I have noticed that 3rd generation Tacoma ATs will hesitate and “clunk” if you apply the accelerator while the truck is slowing but still moving. Especially going up a hill. It feels like the transmission is dropping down a gear to get moving. I avoid this by allowing vehicle to slow to a near stop before hitting the gas pedal. I have not noticed this clunk ever when accelerating after a complete stop such as at a traffic light. It might be a good idea to have your transmission checked. Hope it’s nothing serious.

UPDATE: trans had only about 2qts in it (no leaks, nothing), so pretty confused on why it had that small amount of fluid in it, drained it, filled with new fluid, replaced filter.. trucks runs perfect now.. :)
