I really like this little project, it somehow captures something so simple and honest that seems to be mostly buried in the commercialism of the season. Excellent job!

    Minor rant..

Our cable remote is at least 12 years old and it’s showing. Multiple buttons intermittently work. Otherwise it’s a freat universal remote with ability to program codes for full cable/tv/bluray functionality.

Called the cable company, Spectrum, and they happily sent out not one but 2 replacements.

Programming the TV was problematic in that it only worked to turn off and on the TV. No other functionality as in choosing an input or settings. In fact, when I pressed TV, select, the cable button would flash. Couldn’t get it to stay in TV mode.

Long boring story short, after 15 minutes w customer support, I was informed the only functionality the new remote supports is power and volume.

I explained this was a significant downgrade from the existing remote and the response was that it’s all they HAVE to provide.

I hate cable even more than I did before I called.

Yes, all cord cutting options have been explored, we have the basic cable only to get the only state-wide channel which is downstate and not in my local channels for other packages.

    :annoyed:

@PzTank - i understand you shouldn't need to but have you looked into a programmable universal remote? I'd recommend Logitech Harmony remotes but they were discontinued.

Thanks! I was an early adopter for a type of programmable remote. User customizable but then they closed that option. Kinda turned me away form any other universal remote.

I'm finally done under the kitchen sink!

There is a new heat run (not connected to anything yet...) and a new cabinet floor to replace the rotted original.
I sincerely hope to never have to stick my head under there again. :fingerscrossed:

Next up is back to the attic and then the cellar - another day.

Live alone so hadn’t noticed this leak I had in the carport before. I live on the coast so the house is up on stilts. Parents and siblings were visiting for thanksgiving and someone was running the sink while I was under the house cutting some siding, lo and behold, was pissing water from between two 2x12 joists about 8 inches over from where the drain comes through the carport ceiling. I’d noticed the boards were stained but could never figure out why. Now I know. Turns out when the house was built 23 years ago the guys siding it shot 3 nails into the sanitary T for the sink.

Those laser engraved grips remind me of the walking sticks my Dad makes. I think he took some kind of chisel and heats it up to burn the scales on the snakes. He has made 15-20 of these and gives most of them away.

It's a frosty 30 degrees here right now, had a heavy frost last night. Waiting for it to warm up a bit and then I'll throw my carhart coveralls on and head out to the garage. Plan is to finish up my snowblower refurb and then dig some wood out of the garage for a project I'm working on in my wood shop

Today I'm playing electrical guess who.. I have a solid knowledge base in DC (12,24,36,etc) I can wire and diagnose them proficiency. But today is an outlet replacement in the garage. AC isnt my strong suit. 20231125_092928.jpg The previous owners liked to diy. And the really had some unique ideas on doing things. Flip a breaker labeled west wall... still have several live outlets... oh.. those are tied in to the east wall breaker... hopefully I get this outlet changed without restyling my hair...
