Dam, that's some thick ass antlers. An Ancient Cave man would have made an awesome up close and personal self defense weapon from one of those.

Amazing how bad a buck can stink when the rut is full on. Sometimes you can smell them before they smell you :)

@lynyrd3 I've shot quite a few of those bullets in .243, 30-30, 30-06 and 300 savage calibers over the years, and I've never had them not kill whatever critter was shot with them. But then I started reloading my own for the 30-06 back around 2000, and then for my 300 savage. Man do I miss deer hunting.

I often wonder what the hell I would do if I couldn’t hunt . My back was out and I was in some pretty good pain the first week but I still made it out there and I am grateful. Hope you can get back out there some day . :fistbump:

I can still shoot pistols and 5.56, just not anything with any recoil. So my Marlin MR-7 30-06 is now in the hands of my son in law. My Remington 722 300 savage is still in my gun safe. It will most likely go to one of my nephews. I have been pondering if I could handle the 6.5 grendel recoil or maybe the 350 legend. But I'd still have go hunting with a buddy with a 4-wheeler to drag the deer out of the woods. There's no way I could do that anymore.

I was looking at the recoil table by caliber, and the 7.62x39 is listed pretty low at 6.9ft/lbs for a 125 grain bullet. That's even lower than the .243, and I do have a soviet rifle with a 5 round magazine.... hhhmmmmm
The .357 magnum also has a very low recoil from a rifle. We'll have to see how things go between now and next season :)

David have you considered a muzzle brake? They significantly reduce recoil up to 94%. I have one on my 7mmWSM and it makes a big difference!! I'm sure others can chime in.

I can not drag deer anymore either . That’s was the final straw for my back last season trying to pull a deer up into the back of my lifted Tacoma
You could always take up archery . I have a permit so I can use the crossbow the whole archery season . It’s only typically legal the last 2 weeks of archery . I can not pull back a compound bow anymore. My main issue is my eyes . No lifting over 20 pounds according to eye surgeon. The body is 61 but the mind still thinks I’m 30 .

And consider a heavier gun. All these light synthetic stocked rifles today add kick. My REM 700 .308 VLS totes like a steel bar at 9.5lbs but just taps the shoulder when I pull the trigger. Wood stocks make a big difference soaking up some of the push.

Whether I use the 4wlr or truck I try to back up to a bank or drop rear tires into a depression to lower the rear to get deer in bed or on basket of 4wlr

I have a .260Rem in a Model Seven that has little recoil and kills deer dead. Too bad that cartridge was poorly marketed by Remington and is on the verge of becoming a forgotten cartridge although it's a handloaders dream.

Another option , since lately I'm hunting slug gun areas only, is a Savage 220 bolt action 20ga.
Touches holes at 100 and recoil is minimal with 2 3/4 sabots. Works well for my situation with crappy shoulders and beats the hell out of my 12.
    Kills em dead. A whitetail ain't a T-Rex.

I've started shooting the .350 Legend last year, in a Winchester XPR bolt action. The low recoil is very pleasant, even with the plastic stock.
I've only shot 1 deer with it, so far.
    Deer didn't go far.
    About 3 feet straight down.
