This is the real shit. Everything else is a partial solution.
Here's the version I was recommended by a roof rack shop: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AY6B0

Thanks all! Appreciate the advice. I used silicone on my 4Runner roof rack with no issues for a few years until I took it off. I was really more curious about the set / cure times in winter, not so much the longevity of silicone.

Then read the tube of silicone and see what it tells you.

Did already man. Doesn’t specifiy. Just says cure time is 24 hrs at 70. Saw many things online saying don’t apply in winter, some people said it didn’t matter, etc. was all over the place.

Been using Permatex clear and black adhesive sealant (RTV)for many years on a variety of applications and temperatures in very wet cold conditions. It will cure in 24 hrs. at room temperature but cure time will increase as temperature decreases but will eventually harden. It will not drip, ooze, creep or wash off if left undisturbed. Even when soft as soon as applied, it will prevent water ingress and water actually helps it cure faster. For roof rack bolts, will prevent water ingress as soon as it is applied and as long as it isn't disturbed, it will cure and harden up. If used directly on bolt threads it will act as a sealer as well as a low strength thread locker. Will be no issue using it on your rack!

I'm curious about the winter aspect too? Did you ever install in winter and if so did you have to rush it? It's pretty cold here.

3M 4200 is definitely a superior product. 3M 5200 IF you never want to remove whatever you're attaching. it's overkill for this fix imo just due to the cost.

That's cool. I'm curious about the winter aspect. Anyone else install roof racks during the winter? Or do most wait for the summer?

Did you ever end up installing in winter? or did you wait until it's warmer?

I definitely installed around the time I posed this from what I recall, but I don’t remember exactly when. It went fine. I’ve never had any leaks. I just installed and never checked it again. All seems well.
