Heading out today to run some errands with my wife. I'm about to turn right off of a residential street after stopping at a stop sign. The road I am turning right onto is a 2 lane in both directions (East to West) with a bike lane on both sides. I'm just about to pull into traffic when my wife says "stop!". There was a skateboarder in the bike lane, going against traffic, coming downhill and in the shadow of trees to my right. No helmet or protective gear. He managed to skate around my truck to the rear while yelling at me. Moral of the story.....I actually think it is getting harder to drive and not become involved in an accident these days. Some people are obviously not getting any smarter and are an accident waiting to happen. I remind myself everyday when I'm driving to keep my head on a pivot and to watch out for idiots!

<< Canadians crossing the border to ride three abreast coming over a blind hill on our back country narrow road >>

... I love it when it gets cold enough / snows, no more pedestrian BS.

ETA: and before you :crapstorm: me, yes I know they're Canuk. I hear them screaming French at each other as they go by.

People are so distracted today from everything we used to take for granted like looking both ways before crossing the street or heeding to traffic like the idiot on the skate board. I just saw a kid almost get hit while he was walking and texting. He never looked before walking out into the street. I like to ride bikes in my neighborhood and cant tell you how many close calls I have had because people don't pay attention even driving. So far nobody in a Tacoma has come close to hitting me. I have to be there eyes.

I often see grown adults riding or walking at night, in dark clothes. We don’t have sidewalks here either.
I remember learning in elementary school to wear light colored clothing while riding a bike.

A while back, I witness the guy on skateboard coming down from a bridge, there was a car in front of me and I, are waiting for the traffic to clear up at the stop sign so we can crossing the road; he made a couple attempts yet the cars seem coming relentlessly; when he decided to go, by the time he gets across, the skateboarder was right there in front of the car, I vaguely heard a thump, the guy flipped up in the air and landed behind the car....
It's still a chill in the spine now when talking about it.

Failure. Go out and get two to make up for it.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
My favorites are the ones who like walking on unlit/poorly-lit roadways at night wearing all dark clothing. I've stopped counting now but my tally is about 12ish near-hits. And more than half will get all pissy at me for swerving, not expecting a camouflaged pedestrian to suddenly appear 10ft from my hood, in the form of a floating hooded face, at 9pm on a 55mph road. How dare I.

Gimme an orange beanie or bright jacket, at least

I live on a street that sees a lot of action. Everyday I see someone driving while looking at their cell phone.

No - sorry more a general pedestrian pile-on, but specifically them bicycling like it's not a public road with many blind spots.
