I've got 20,000 miles on Denso copper K16R-U plugs. How many miles can you get out of these copper plugs on the 1996 2.4?

Is the .032 gap in inches, or is that metric? Dumb question, I know

32 thousandths of an inch, .032". Spark plugs are generally good for much longer than 20k miles. Unless you're having ignition issues I wouldn't change them until 60-80k

Owner's manual has both mm and in.

.032 (or more accurately .031) is in inches.

Thanks for taking time out to answer. These are the stock style copper plugs they say are only good for 20,000 miles, and my car is shaking a little at idle. It starts fine and gets 23 MPG, so it runs good. So, even on the cheap copper plugs I can get 60,000 miles out of them?

^Toyota's recommended interval is 30k for copper plugs: https://assets.sia.toyota.com/publications/en/omms-s/98ALLMS_MS0003/pdf/98ALLMS_MS003.pdf

Are you reasonably certain your plugs are genuine Denso? I've had counterfeit Denso plugs fail (electrode worn down to nothing) in as little as 16k.

Other possible causes for shaking include carbon tracking on the plug's ceramic insulation, crack in the boot, bad coil, or it could have nothing to do with the ignition system at all. :) Did you hook up an OBD2 dongle to check the misfire counter?

I had my spark plug wires begin to interfere with each other due to some fancy electromagnetic wave stuff, I guess that's why you're supposed to space them out. Anyways that caused a slight miss at idle. Might be worth replacing when you do plugs.
