mornin all! NGD for me yesterday. Found a Gibson J-15 on Clist. Picked it up yesterday from a neighboring state.
Action is insane, nearly like that of an electric. No pics at present, as I could not put it down long enough to take the opportunity. Interesting model actually. solid Walnut back, sides and fretboard. Spruce top and its electric! factory installed LR Baggs Element. No body cuts! Super stoked! Never thought I would ever be able to afford a Gibby acoustic, but now I am a proud owner!! Only produced these from 2014-2019

    Congrats!

I almost pulled the trigger on one just like it...

Out if curiosity, what do use the microfiber cloth for? Strings or finish?
I found microfiber cloths left all kinds of lint on my finishes. It's like its statically bound and will not simply, wipe away. Switched back to using soft old t-shirts...

Ya, microfiber cloth is used primarily for what you see it in the pic. My CE 22 has a nitro finish on the neck, so I don't trust the foam composition of the stand at the neck to contaminate the nitro...I've read it might including other plastic type constructs. So it lives there to protect the nitro of the CE. I do use it to clean the strings and fretboard and back of neck after playing, cuz its right there. To clean body finish I have a separate cloth designed for that purpose as non abrasive...it's the blond one in the second pic draped over the case lid

I'm so impressed with this guitar

I thought the same when I saw it online. Sadly, it is not as noticeably pretty in person. the camera really loves it though. but the sound and playability is so good, it could look like Willie's Trigger and Id have still bought it.
I really like the 2pc maple neck too!
    Thanks!

Forgot to post my gift from my wife for our 5 year anniversary. Straight from the Gibson MOD collection. I still need to put new strings on it and oil the fretboard!

Just finished converting this Sunn Alpha 112p to a head. Chopped off the bottoms and made some new side panels out of scrap I had.

Ya, wish I had that knack...the electronics side of these instruments and accessories is a black box to me.

I need to learn it but I keep buying PRS's and i'm not practicing/learning on those.

Hey there - long time player 40+years, and (probably?) first time poster in this thread. I dreaded ever starting anything in here as it would send me down the rabbit (rabid? haha) hole of my life with music since I was 8... I've barely got time to sh#@ post in the other threads... lol

    Anyway - Hive mind input?

Mrs. Arc is cleaning up sister's estate in another state. She came across the sister's ~1969 Harmony H165 acoustic. I haven't seen it in person, but have seen photos. Looks ok / decent shape, lighter blond front vs some of the darker ones I've seen pictures of. Probably wasn't played much. I don't think I ever played one myself, usually had an Ovation steel and a nylon many years back for my acoustics. Electric is my thing mostly.

Seems like it would be worth maybe low to mid hundreds probably because of the age, not really concerned one way or the other with that. More like, has anyone else had one? Are these desireable? They any good? Steer away? Might be cool just for the "I got a 55 year old guitar" claim, but I'm not really lusting after it for any other reason. Just don't want to end up with a stinker. Should I persue this from the estate, or just "nah - nothing special"?

    Thoughts? Questions?
    thx
    Arc

    Hi Thanks!

Harmony's been around since the late 1800's in some form. Sounds like kind of decent / OK standard level stuff, did lots of guitars and other instruments and also sold through Sears, etc. Wiki page was short but sounds like they have history. I knew the name, just never came across them before. Just seeming like getting something from the 60's makes me itchy for it lol.

Electric - hooo, Been mainly a Mesa Boogie user since the mid 80's. Gone through about a dozen different models thoughout the years. I am down to two - I have the very first I got from them, an SOB, and the very last, a dual rec 3 channel. The SOB has that smooth tight attack and feel (basically a decently boosted Fender, and cleans up nice on low gain), the rec has the modern big full sound and presence. Crappy clean sound though. So got some of the best of each.

Guitars - still going on with my late 90's Ibanez 470 that I hack into and beat on. I play / pick hard and can damage things, so I just keep slamming that with no worries about value on it, and it just keeps chugging on lol. Also have a standard strat for more subdued playing. Again, a mix to try to get most variety covered. Been through plenty of others in the past - I miss my late 80's Charvel the most, and had a (I think?) 59 strat reissue back then too that was awesome. Some day if I get motivated enough I'll break down and get a PRS...

I also tend to run straight in for cleanest sound, very little effects. I usually only keep a wah hooked up. "The rest can be fixed up in editting" as they say....

Finished up the Replicaster last night. I know I've posted my TD Strat before, but I was a rabid Blink fan in HS and couldn't afford the original release so I jumped on the re-release. With two little kids running around I was not the biggest fan of hanging it on the wall with my other junky guitars where little hands could potentially grab it, or send my desk chair flying into. I was on eBay late one night (famous last words) and came across the 2023 Squier Affinity FSR Strat in Surf Green for dirt cheap. With the right color and head stock the Replicaster idea came to mind. I ended up scooping the correct TD pickguard and Duncan Invader as well as a Fender 500k volume pot and Fender Telecaster knob. I also added a super cool Blaudez Guitars Blink bunny neckplate. This isn't a perfect replica by any means as it's not a hardtail, the tuners and input jack differ and the volume knob fits slightly different which I haven't figured out.

That being said, visually it's close enough. The surf green on the real Fender is a bit more vibrant and the sound is fuller, but I'd say it's 75-80% of the original. It lets me enjoy playing whenever I want without worrying about the kids. Today when I was testing it out and tuning it I had one monster wedged behind me on the chair, the other one trying to fret notes. The thought of that with the real deal gives me anxiety but with this it's a bit more "who cares". Every time the amp goes on the kids drop whatever they're doing and run in, so I need something that can take a bump or two. I put a small chip in it working on it and I'm still talking to myself, but it's nothing like what it would have been if it was the real guitar.

I learned how to do a bit of fret dressing with the (admittedly stupid pricey) Stewmac fret file which I very much enjoyed doing.

Now to bang out some power chords poorly.

I do have a used allegedly Daphne Blue Squier coming from Guitar Center this week and the same Affinity large headstock neck I might bang together a blue TD replicaster. The color in the add looks a bit more like an in-between Daphne and Surf Green, but we will see what shows. I bought a Guitarfetish Lido body in Daphne and it was legit Surf Green.

I still have my Tokai Strat with an Invader in that that I plan to swap an DiMarzio X2N in for laughs.

New Project started this weekend. I have an old late 80's E9 Blonde MIK Squier JB (my first bass) that was retired upon my gig life beginning with a G&L SB2 many years ago. It sat dormant in the cardboard case it came in for all that time. Upon doing a bit of digging, it seems painfully apparent that this model is likely the least sought after model of them all. Plywood body, crappy P/U's, and so on. The wheels start turning..... cant really mess it up now, can I? So, it was completely disassembled, and the rebuild process has begun. Will be drilling out the strap lug locations, and pick up screw holes and plugging with an oak dowel. these are the biggest issue with a ply body. The screw holes wallow out super fast.
I will be posting updates as I go.

Second venture in making truss covers. This is a four piece with the outer laying being maple veneer.
