I don't think that is the problem. It's not a power problem it's a misfire feeling under low load. Can get as bad as a mild stutter. And not the normal 2nd gear shutter in all MT cars I have driven where it is engine rock on the mounts.

@Vlady has it right.. This is trans/torque converter shudder. It is what it is. drop a gear, or live with the shudder. there really is no "fix" A lot of us have been dealing with this for a while. I have a 19 with 40,000 miles on it. It has done it since day one, with and without tunes. Ski

And for those with the manual trans what would be the explanation?

My 2023 Off-road, automatic with 3800 miles does this. At any speed, when it's in 6th gear it will start jerking. Feels like trans is slipping or engine skipping. Sad to say but this seems to be normal. A modern vehicle really shouldn't feel like this.

Some do it WAY worse than others. All I can tell you is each and every one of these 3rd gens seem to have its own type of quirk, if it’s not the issues your having then it’s another issue. I’ve owned 5 of them and ALL of them have had “issues” but as many on here have said I guess it depends on what people deem as actual “issues”. All subjective I suppose. My 2023 sr5 will not do the jerking as yours does no matter how much I try to make it do it. But it does have a slight vibration under acceleration and around 50mph which my last Tacoma was smooth as glass but it jerked really bad like yours. Hope you’re getting my drift. If you think by trading it in for another 3rd gen is going to fix your issue your mistaken you’ll just be trading that issue for another issue lol trust me I know. Again I’ve owned 5 of them. Rant over. Hope this helps

Wrong gear, just like with all manual transmissions, motorcycles, automobiles etc... For the auto trans crowd, all we can do is manually select S4, or S5, or treat the auto like a manual, and downshift. You manual people have the power at your finger tips, and are required to select the proper gear. The auto people are slaved to the terrible translogic of this platform. Ski

Coming from a guy who had driven stick shift for 25 years now it's not the gear. I can change gears and it does the same thing in 3 different gears on the same stretch of road. I know what you are talking about when it comes to wrong gear selection. For example 70mph on flat highway 6th is the appropriate gear. There is definitely more to it than just gearing.

Appreciate the comments, it helps to know that it's not just me. This truck is just not what I expected after owning a new 1st gen, then a new 2nd gen. When you couple this with the fact that the paint came off my rocker panels, this may be the last Toyota I buy.

It’s pathetic man. Many many an issue over 7 years were never solved. Just wait until summer and your a/c box starts dripping water on your passenger floor mat and getting your passengers feet wet. That’s also”normal”

You sure that’s not the coating they put down there? Looks like discoloration more than paint coming off in that picture.

Every single vehicle I have owned from every manufacturer has problems that are never solved. Pretty sure there is an unresolved problem with every generation of every vehicle. Watch any antique car show on tv and they will talk about this model is prone to this problem and this model for that problem.

I’ve noticed it helps if you push your right foot down on the gas pedal just a bit more. Don’t be shy

100% sure it's paint. I rubbed it with a rag and the white paint came off on the rag. The paint has a tacky feel. Both rockers and the lower part of the front fenders.

Got ya. Seems like it would have something to do with the rock protection in that area.

Paint issue take it to dealer, this thread has already drifted to another members issues. Where are pics of the ops truck? I’d like to see tire size and what a stage 2 icon lift looks like…

My 23 is bone stock, I’m not feeling any of these issues y’all are mentioning. I’ve towed my trailer 1000’s of miles and the truck seems fine.

Of the five 3rd gens that you owned; did you ever have the transmission fluid checked to see if any were low?

I never feel the “shudder” after my OTT tune and running premium fuel to keep timing maximized. I also have the Injen Evolution intake, which I love. I can climb a hill in 6th at 1500 rpm’s and light throttle, I don’t feel it. It was there on the OEM setup. You may want to consider switching tunes and / or running premium fuel, though I’m not sure if timing really plays a role. Probably more what the tune changed.

Ah you must have gotten a good truck then and not have been on here long enough to see the thousand and thousands of issues
