Wow…I wonder if it’s something with the latest update? That’s causing this?

Nope. I just picked up a new ECU moments ago. Going to try and pair that to my truck tonight probably. This weekend I’ll try to make the harness for the bench recovery.

so as of now, my original ecu is still bricked.

@Technique , Alex, sorry to hear about your situation. I’ve had one soft brick in my tuning years that got resolved, but it sure sucks.

Could the source of the problem be with the .vfc file size? I see that with the 1.7.5 version, some of the STOCK.vfc files are 1537kb while later modified STOCK.vfc files are 2049kb. Looks like the 04B04 stock file was modified in Aug/23 but file size remains at 1537kb.

I think we need to hear from Mat about the cause and solution before using the 1.7.5 flash tool to flash either a STOCK file or a tune, refresh, going forward. (“legacy” should have been a red flag prior to download)

Best of luck getting it going again and please keep us posted on the outcome from Mat.

I’d love to hear an explanation as to how and what happened to my ECU. But the other dude sounded like he was flashing an actual tune file. I was doing stock.

Were you flashing the 04B04 stock file? Did Mat send you an updated stock file? If so, was there a difference in the file size, old vs modified?

Yeah..we’ll see. He’s having me reset the immo now and then check the ECU VIN. If it’s wrong still, then I’ll try flashing again per his instructions.

Updating, Matt sent me a connection diagram, I removed the ecu and I did it, very very rustic, but it worked!! I reinstalled the ECU, the truck started, I turned it off, I flashed it again and everything went well.

So happy that worked for you!!! I just got my vin flashed to the new ECU with Techstream. It kept failing in VFtuner. I have some stuff coming this weekend and I’m going to try and build that harness to recovery my original. Not messing with my working ecu until I have a backup lol.

Congrats Taco-mex! Glad that work out!

    Technique praying for success!

I would like some better pic’s and understanding of how a proper harness should be made.

Same. I’m surprised somebody hasn’t built one all fancy and started selling them. Shit I’d buy one lol.

A tuner on here had sent me the updated 04b04. I compared that with the new one within the VFtuner folder on my computer and the sizes matched. I asked Matt for the correct file and he told me to use the one in the Vftuner folder.

I’d encourage you to look at the modified date not file size. Use the 9/27/2023 (or later) dated file. I would NOT use the 8/27/2023 files. Been down this road..

Justin, can you help me out of my confusion? Mat told @Technique to use the stock file in the VF Tuner folder. In my case there are two files in the VF Tuner folder specifically for my ECU that are named differently. Which one of these two files would I use to revert my 2018 to a stock tune: 04A61 STOCK.vfc 23-08-27 or 04A6100.vfc 2023-09-28? Both files are the same size, 2049kb. Use the later dated file even though it's not specifically named 'STOCK.vfc'? Way more confusing to me than it otta be.
