Took him four hours to finish it up, but yeah, it's as good as it's gonna get. Holes in the ceiling because we had to find the beams to tie into, also not a big deal since I need to take all the sheet rock down and insulate anyways.

Yes stud finder, but the brackets had to be bolted directly to them, not through the sheet rock.

You'd think lag screws through the SR and into celing joist would be just fine.

That's how the old one was, but he insisted that's how it had to be done

If I recall, there's living space above the garage. Current code requires 5/8 sheetrock as a fire retardant on common garage/living space walls or ceiling.

Yep, that's exactly what it is. I just can't figure out why they never insulated it! What a pain in the ass to go and redo it all...

Wait till you want to upgrade electrical and you have to tear it all down to run one wire.
I’d make sheet rock box sub panels and then you could pull sections down. Course it would take like 3 people to do it but you wouldn’t ruin the SR. Wonder if you could get away with sheet rock paneled drop ceiling????

Everyone has to learn and figure out their way of doing the job.
They said he was new. Such a tuff crowd…
    I’m glad I don’t work on any of your shit… lol…

Agree generally, but perhaps he should be working with a fully trained installer until he's capable of doing the job in a timely manner and not forcing the homeowner to take an additional day off. That costs $$ too.

Beat me to it. Everyones gotta learn, but unleashing them like that to take a job twice as long sucks for the homeowner.

Once you “send them on their own”, it’s like learning all over again. Saw it all the time at the shop.
    Super frustrating.

    Wow.
Thought I would do a cool thing and put a pilot switch by the cedar closet downstairs.
Keep from leaving the light on.
Well, no such luck. Using 14/2 WG wire does not lend to doing that.
Grrrrrrrr. No Neutral…… so I guess a motion sensor light may come into play.
Also don’t like the idea of the light switch having the ground wrapped around the mounting screw.
So I’ll check every switch down there and change those switches that need replacing.
    Such a hack job..
