I can't be disrespected if i don't care, I'm not manipulated that easy.
I imagine this is what the second Gen forums looked like in 2015.

Exactly - folks are acting like this is a brand new engine design - it's not.

In other words Torque under stress that you will never see in a Highlander - good point.

you and many people are right its not a new design, however this engine is kind of new to its application. just because its a solid engine in a highlander driving to soccer practice doesnt mean its solid engine offroading in a tacoma, the dynamics change by a large margin. altho i have no idea if toyota considered to make improvements to the engine with this in mind. im sure no matter what its a good engine, only time will tell what its quirks are in a tacoma!

99.3% of Tacoma owners will drive it exactly as they would a Highlander.

Pretty spot on honestly. I remember seeing the 3rd gen and thinking wtf. And a 3.5 v6? What is this car motor Toyota is pushing now! Aside from a crappy transmission it seems the 3.5 has held up fairly well over the years. A few issues with hill climbs but I don’t think that is an exclusive issue to the 3.5.

I honestly think the new interior is great, sure it’s a little busy but everything has a purpose. Want less buttons get a lower trim. I get people are scared of the turbo but if Toyota came out with a v6 turbo I think people would be happier than pigs in shit. I don’t get the hate for a turbo engine. Toyota has taken this long to put it into a truck I don’t think they are going to risk their long known reliability by putting something that is sub par in the trucks. Biggest issue I see is going to be for people who don’t check their oil often and change it on time. I am sure Toyota knows that and is doing extra for cooling as I believe I heard this engine has a separate cooler for the turbo oil so time will tell what is involved in all that.

What people should be pissed about is this thing is still slow af. Even my 2nd gen with a supercharger and around 100 more hp/tq this truck is still far from being “fast”. It’s basically equal to a v8 domestic now but my engine is still working harder. I’m not really interested in a hybrid as I think you give up too much in an already small cab (less storage) and it will make the engine bay even more messy for any aftermarket options that may come out in the future. I just don’t see how they keep wanting to make these trucks bigger and bigger, but put smaller engines in. Their original excuse is emissions but as I understand the bigger the vehicle the more you can get away with. Jeep is still selling v6 gladiators and ford can get away with a twin turbo v6 in a bronco. I’m hoping these new ecu’s are too locked down and people will be able to tune them a bit, especially for the manual trans since they really did that dirty this generation.

And that's just in the Toyota camp. The BMW M10 was so reliable and so capable that BMW literally grabbed blocks from junkyards in the 80s to build into 1700hp F1 motors.

Also all this talk about V6 vs I4 and nobody ever calls for the real solution...the Taco needs an inline 6.
