Parking brake roulette

    I would like to see if the parking brake works on my new to me ‘11 2nd gen with 175k. A little afraid to do it in case they are rusty abd will sieze once applied. These was pretty common on the us vehicles if they are never used. Have no historical data on if they have ever been used. How big of an issue is this on the tacos. What are my chances i will be able to release them?

    Well, you have to do it sooner or later. I predict this is much ado about nothing. Never was an issue on my 2nd gen and I've never heard it mentioned. But when you do try it, do it during rush hour just to make it interesting.

    2” lift, ARB front bumper, steel rear bumper, Trail Gear weld-on sliders, aFe cai, 2lo kit, air bag suspension, RA Motorsports AL skid plates
    Do it on a dry day. Don’t reef on it the first few times.
    My left rear seizes very occasionally , but I use it all the time (mt).
    I keep a 1" pipe and hammer to hit the sweet spot on the drum to release it when it seizes.

    thanks for the input. I am guessing it is one of those pedals that I have to go all the way down in order to get it to release, so no little by little approach to test it.

    Had the cables locked up on my dad's truck after we had the rear brakes inspected and adjusted. I was able to just yank on it right at the rear wheel and get it to release. Probably two to three inches of pull. Heard a "pop", Truck then rolled but would get stuck when I used the brakes.

    We carefully drove it to back to the shop and they just cut the cables. His truck has a lot of rust, Oh well....Someday hopefully we'll replace the rear parts enough to get it back but haven't had a problem since....Good Luck.
