Consolidated Super White 040 Paint Issue/Failure Thread - With Toyota Corp. Update

I received the letter over the weekend. Customer Support Program (23TE08)

Thankfully, so far I have no paint issues and never contacted Toyota about this at all.

2021 TRD Sport purchased March 2021 with roughly 20k miles today. Made in Mexico.

 

Just got our letter. Finally some traction. I filed a complaint with Corporate about a year ago. Since then my wife's truck that is garage kept has gotten worse. All 4 doors and both front fenders are just flaking off.

Do you need to go into a dealership to file/get put on a list?

 

I did not do anything. I have a service next week I was going to say something. Recieved letter today so I plan on talking to them about it.

 

I believe/recall I have seen that folks here have also reported problems with the paint on trucks prior to model year 2017, especially 2014/2015 model years. Should second gen owners also request Toyota opening a case for this issue if they see any evidence of this fault?

Mine is a Texas truck and the paint still looks perfect. Hopefully this continues.

 

Agreed, but I really feel for anyone going through this this. Just luck of the draw. When I purchased I had no Idea that a Toyota, basic plain white color, could have issues like this. Also, this could have easily been trucks made out of the Texas plant instead.

I'm very pleased to see Toyota finally stepping up and recognizing the issue for Tacoma's and formulating a fix.

 

Got my letter yesterday. My VIN starts with a 3.

 

Got my letter. I have a Mex truck. I'm not having much luck with Toyotas. Had a 2019 Tundra that had rear main, cam tower, and timing cover leak at 19,000 miles. Traded it on my Tacoma while the dealer had the top end of the motor apart. Wasn't aware at that time of the white paint issue and that Tacoma's also deal with the timing cover leak.

 

I called corporate and raised hell, before that I went to the dealership and they took pictures. So my issue is in their system for sure.

 

Do you have to be the original owner? I’m the 3rd owner of the truck but it was bought as a Toyota certified pre owned. My paint still looks good but not saying it won’t start peeling and just curious if I can do anything since I’m not the original owner.

 

I don't think so. I received the letter already and bought my truck certified pre-owned. Just make sure your current info is up to date in toyota's system. I have the same year as you and it just started peeling 6 months ago.

I got my letter a few weeks back. Bought my truck used last year and put a ceramic coat on it right away. so far, knock on the wood, the paint is holding up.

 

Hey everyone, I have a 2017 that's peeling. Like I said earlier(sorry to repeat myself) the dealer identified 60 places where the paint came off with painters tape. I live in Connecticut and still haven't received the letter. Does anyone know if they are sending the letters out by region or is there another methodology to it?

No clue. Id just give it a while they just announced this last week. Also its not like there is a fix yet. We still have to wait more months I imagine before we can start scheduling appts to get this fixed.

Unless you already fixed this and looking for reimbursement. If so hopefully they will reimburse everything not just covering the fenders and doors.

 

You don't need the letter if your vin is in their data base. Call Toyota and ask.

My RAV was repainted (post 317 if interested) because I showed up at the dealer and asked. They looked and it was.

Never got any letter.

 

Found another spot beginning to flake off. The upper right side bed area where it meets the cab.
