Just changed my brake pads (shims preinstalled and i made sure to lube the back of them with brake grease)
when i touch the brake in reverse i hear a clunk in the front end. It happens every time i touch the brake in reverse, it’s not just a one and done the first time i brake in reverse.

A few days ago i heard a dragging noise in the front driver side when rolling which would stop when i braked. so i took the wheels off and saw that when i spun the rotor by hand there was a grinding noise. I thought something was maybe caught in the front end between the brake rotor and the dust shield so i bent the dust shield around a bit til the noise stopped. Replaced with advics pads and now when reversing and tapping the brake i get this clunking noise.

    any thoughts?

could it also be bad wheel bearings?

someone recently had a similar problem and found the caliper mount was not secure, allowing 'shift' and noise upon change of direction.

A good diagnois method in a case like this is to kind of 'start over' and repeat steps, looking for something that may have been missed.

Caliper mount as in the caliper bolts that screw into steering knuckle right? Were they not torqued to spec?

This may just be the brake pads moving forwards. Have done my own pads and rotors and the holes in the pads where the cross retaining pins fit is larger than the pins and the pads themselves are just slightly narrower than the slot in the caliper so that when they heat up they don't expand and jam up.
After driving forward all day and then parking the pads are as far back as they can be. In the morning when cool and you back up the pads can then move ever so slightly forward. Mine do this first thing in the morning backing out of my driveway...
The caliper in the bottom photo is the passenger side I had to replace. The factory caliper had tears in the piston boots (even though it was serviced and inspected by the dealer) and as a result two of the pistons seized due to water and salt getting in.

I had a similar noise. Kind of a tinny noise but only when I tapped the brake pedal while rolling backwards (the truck, not me). I lived with it for 40K miles and when I replaced the pads again the noise was no longer present. Just sayin'...

There are a lot of people here that swear by the Akebono pads...
    and that's what I did....

I've never heard of a single complaint .....starting to see why...

Could be front wheel bearing starting to wear out.
