    Had a few more apples and some blueberries that needed to be used. Made another apple blueberry pie with a brown sugar, butter and bourbon compote. Man this is now my new favorite apple pie.

    This is what I'm talking about. This is proper Biscuits and Gravy. I travel. I am constantly disappointed. The best is still Emil Villa's Hayward CA.

    while I could argue my body is sponsored by GRAVY, I just can't get behind biscuits and gravy. I never feel right after a plate. I now only eat it while elk hunting. something that requires a big caloric load. I'll chase it with a pop-tart. haha.

    I don't think it is yummy enough to eat that load.

    You just never had them done right. I travel and seek out B&G. Most restaurants it's an afterthought. Not something they do a lot or well. Good B&G should be right up there next to sex.

    B&G is definately an American thing and probably regional at that. The rest of the world just shrugs and wonders what it is all about.

    There are plenty of things California does well. Biscuits and sausage gravy is not one of them.

    While we’re on the topic, where are my Shit on a Shingle people at? My grandma made it for me as a kid and I understand/respect its historical value. I’ll be plumb popped and still down a plate if you put it in front me.

    @Beef Nachos . I don't think I can point at one thing. the gravy never seems super flavorful, and maybe I just don't love biscuits. I have never tasted a deeply flavored B&G. there is a place in Rocklin CA that came close. it was good, but still nothing I would order. but very good. I was talking S about the dish and the owner gave me a tiny order to taste. I think it is just how it makes me feel afterwards. bloated and slow.

    I don't love the gravy on chicken fried steak (gasp!). either.

    I recently (2-3 years ago) came to the same conclusion about fish and chips. hahahah...bloated and slow. I quit eating it as well. the flavor just wasn't worth the feelings afterwards for me.

    Have you been tested for a gluten/wheat/barley/etc. intolerance or celiac? One of the neighbors’ kids is allergic to wheat specifically, but not gluten.
