Tacoma packaging has sucked for a while now. I’m going to reserve judgement until the configurator and ebrochure go live.

Same here. I'm just a little tired of hearing the same things over and over. Until I can build an actual truck I'd like and see what is or isn't available, I will just sorta silently sit and keep polishing my pitchfork.*

*not meant in a dirty way.

Imagine if GM, Toyota and Nissan mid-size trucks were stale. Toyota would have done a less aggressive redesign, charged more and given fewer/less desirable features and packages. In particular I think Ranger Raptor puts a competitive price cap and drives a high-content feature set on the Pro and Trail Hunter variants.
Capitalism wins. Keep rooting for the other manufacturers, it keeps Toyota honest.

The new tacoma’s mid size 4 cylinder gets the exact same mpg as a full size Ford F150 5.0 V8, with half the room, half the towing, half the payload and less power……

    Wtf?

Apparently people can’t park a F150 is the main reason they choose the Tacoma over it…

And Toyota will sell every Tacoma they can make in the high trim and kit they choose. They know their mass audience well. Much to the dismay of many on Tacoma world.

I think a lot of folks will be doing competitive analysis. You would be foolish not to at the projected prices.

I’ve towed a 5k TT some 13k miles in the past 2 years and it’s definitely at the top of the tacos limits, especially when climbing a good grade into a headwind. If you’re not in a rush and set your expectations it’s quite a capable truck.

Would love to have had the low down torque of the 4G though.

Yeah wouldn’t go much above 5000 lbs. Looking at trailers in the 3500 lbs for the Taco, and around 7000 lbs if we go bigger, so Tundra or F150, trying not going so big that we need 1 Ton, as it is just more a pain in the ass.

Even though the towing capacity didn’t change, the 4G will be better at it. Think if I was just by myself the Taco would be fine. Two of us…dunno think a bigger trailer beyond a Taco’s capabilities would be better.

Cybertruck numbers and ordering just dropped, it has over 7,000 lb/ft of torque….. i guess the $55k+ ~450 lb/ft torque tacoma hybrid would be impressive in 2010…

Makes more sense everyday why Akio Toyoda was ousted.

Looks like competition sticker prices are about the same, but non-Toyota dealers often discount their prices. You save $2-3K when you buy but when you sell or trade you get $2-3K less, so did you save money?

No, they have stepped into full size 5.0 V8 F150 price at this point (which also gets the same MPG with a ton more power), something comparable like the Frontier starts at $29k and the highest trim is like $42k. The frontier is also not a turbo 4, yet it makes the same power and MPG without forced induction. Really seems like they are trying to carve out a price point for a maverick competitor, so they overpriced the new taco.

7000 ft/lb is how practical for street use??? (A CAT D9 weighs 55 tons, and has a 465 hp engine and is used to make the roads we drive on). And all that torque, towing range is going to be what 100 miles if you’re lucky. Seems like a dick measuring contest for tech geeks to brag about while they sip kombucha…

Honestly the Tacoma is overkill, don’t see the point with such a low towing capacity. Ford’s 6.8 Gas V8 has 445 ft/lbs and can be specced to tow 16,000 lbs. probably get it cheaper than a hybrid Taco. msrp is $52K on an XL 250.

Akio Toyoda is still right, EVs aren’t ready for prime time. Even with all the boasting that is going on.

See her mom’s HiLux is still going, wonder how many 4Gs will still be on the road 40 years from now? :)

Only thing BEV's can't do is towing distance for now, if your getting a Tacoma to routinely tow, it's a shitty choice. The Tesla model Y was best selling vehicle in the world Q1 and still one of the best sellers in the world.

Akio Toyoda was ousted because of his inability to adapt to modern technology mindset that has set Toyota ~3 years behind the current curve of the market. Toyota was out here wasting hundreds of millions on R&D into hydrogen, lmao.

700HP+ while getting 65MPGe+, the future is now old man.

    Marketing at its finest.

An auto iForce Max has over 18,000 lbf-ft at the wheels in low range.

I previously posted on Colorado and Ranger builds which priced out the same as the Tacoma. Just did the Frontier.

$39,100 Pro 4X (comparable to TRD Off Road)
$505 Tow Package (just hitch and wiring - std on TRD OR)
$990 Tech Pkg (same as Safety Sense - std on tacoma)
    $1,335 Shipping
    $41,930

2024 Tacoma TRD OR is $42,900, $970 more. Not sure if the Toyota price includes shipping but 2024 vs 2023.

Frontier v6 has more hp less tq and gets 17/19 mpg.
