What does this “performance” chip do?

Alright, 2013 TRD Sport 1GR-FE with 104k miles. Decided to clean the MAF as part of my 100k-ish maintenance and found this G-Force Performance Chip hooked to the MAF wiring harness (pics below)

I’ve owned the truck for 5 years and 60k miles, noticed the chip before but was too lazy to post on here for some more information.

No issues with the truck at all, MPG averages between 17-18 with a 1.5” lift and 31.5” KO2s. I’m not concerned about mileage or power.

Should I rip this thing out or just let it be? Thanks!

I doubt it will harm anything, except maybe where the wiring was done with those vampire taps.

But I'd wager the best thing it's ever done is empty the POs wallet.

*I* would remove it if it were mine.

"Enhancing" the performance of your MAF will do exactly nothing. I'd be more concerned about the possible damage done to the harness during installation.

PS: You might want to see if the original owner also fell victim to the "Electronic Rust Prevention" system debacle and disconnect that too if it's there.

My electrical knowledge isn't great but that doesn't look like it's hooked up correctly either. If that thing does anything at all I would think the signal being modified would pass through it. That splice will split the signal. So now there are 2 signals passing down the wire.

And is that a bare wire that's not connected to anything?

I'd remove it and use some liquid electrical tape to cover the splice.

Most of those tap into the IAT circuit and change the temp that the IAT reports, they are not a MAF calibrator and offer no performance benefit.
