Hi there...we live in the mountains and it gets very dark here. I'm thinking that new headlights might make a big difference and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. I've never changed the bulbs and wondered if that might be an option in stead of new lights, to get a brighter view. Thank you and my apologies if this has been covered in another thread which I wasn't able to find.

This is an incredibly comprehensive thread that dives deep on different bulbs assuming you don't already have the factory LED headlights.

3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights

If you decide to stick with replacing a bulb I'd recommend one of the options mentioned in the above thread, otherwise I believe the general consensus is to upgrade to the OEM LEDs + a harness from a forum member on here makes and sells (can't remember who off the top of my head) but also can't comment on any aftermarket options.

Have you thought about a light bar? They have them for roof mount or grill areas, a little expensive but an option

    good luck

It's not generally legal to operate light bars on the roadway.

Get Philips H9’s for your low beams for $11 each. Try them out first before deciding to go to OEM LED’s and adapter harnesses as you’ll be out over $1500 for those.

The H9’s work very well in mountainous driving, and unlike the LED’s that run cold, they will warm up the headlight covers enough to melt ice and snow off them. As you probably already know, that would be a big plus in winter driving!

You’ll either have to snap a tab off each bulb plug or remove the green cap that’s in your low beam sockets to get the H9 high beam bulbs to fit in the low beam sockets. (See post #5983)

Use a bit of the money you saved over the LED’s to buy OEM LED fogs for pretty cheap or some upgraded ones also- I found a pair of used ones here for $50. But on second thought maybe just leaving the OEM halogen ones for ice would be better.
(if you don’t have fogs, I have a set of OEM halogen ones that I’d give away if you just pay shipping too).

I replaced my halogen assemblies with factory LED assemblies. They are a huge improvement and in my opinion the single best modification I have ever done. I definitely recommend them. You can also improve forward visibility with a decent set of fog lamps. I chose Diode Dynamics Elites in Amber.

I have also installed a 30" Rough Country LED bar in the front bumper for off-road duty.
