No one has mentioned the trigger safety. My personal opinion is that a thumb safety is safer. I would go with the S&W 9mm, which has a thumb safety.

I know this is controversial. Glocks are cheap, but apparently quite reliable. IMO that is the reason they are so popular.

I carry a 1911 .45, some what above your price range.

So OP this tread is 2 years old. Did you ever get your gun? If you did, what did you get and why?

I would literally NEVER carry a 1911 over a G19. The lack of a thumb safety is easily overcome with common sense and a rigid holster.

Glocks are used as service pistols by police in the US more than any other pistol. Glocks are also used by the US elite military forces. (At least they were, I don’t know if they recently contracted with a different company) Also the FBI and CIA use them. Glocks aren’t cheap guns they are moderately priced. There are many reasons to carry a Glock but the primary one - they are dependable/reliable, they always go bang. Every single fucking time they go bang. You can treat them like shit, you can put thousands of rounds through them without cleaning and they still go bang every time.

They also have massive and cheap aftermarket support, can be configured dozens of ways for your carry and shooting style, and if you take apart several Glocks of the same generation and throw the parts in a bag and reassemble them, they will all work, which is more than I can say for other guns.

The current glock(43X MOS, Gen5) my wife carries. Has a holosun on top, and she can drive tacks with it from 5ft, to 30 yards. She prefers it over any of the other pistols. And, it's reliable. All that matters.
My EDC is a 365XL, or my OLD XDs9. My Xds has had more rounds through it than I could guess, not a single hiccul that wasn't due to questionable ammo. Ole Reliable.
These plus my 938 are what are located in safe closest to the door.
I have no full size/duty carry pistols. I may snag one, but, it would be a range toy, either a 92FS/M94, M17 or 2011.

At the end of the day, pissing contests aside, the one that feels better in your hand, shoot most accurately, and is reliable, is the best option.
I have one piece of hardware that I am not 100% sure will, be 100% reliable.. and its one of my 12ga.

Sorry for the rambling while waiting to do a meeting.....

My Glock 17 Gen 3 has been absolutely 100% reliable with everything from the lightest reloads to self defense factory ammo. Great full size 9mm. Simple and effective. Easy to shoot accurately. Minimal recoil. Inexpensive. Tough. Glock 17 makes for a great utilitarian gun.

Best concealed carry option in my opinion, was a long time Glock fan from getting out of the Marines to recent but Sig finally took over.
