Hey there all. I am new to the forums so please dont roast me too much. I am sure this has been answered I am sure but I scoured these forums and the internet looking for a solid answer. So here goes.

I have a 2023 Offroad. I am not really excited as most owners about the USB layout in the vehicle. If I understand correct the usb in the center console is not connected to the radio in anyway. I also believe that the dash usb port is the only one that works with the radio.

I recently purchased a wireless carplay adapter and actually really like it. It has a slight delay when switching songs but no biggie here. I do not want this adapter just laying in the center console. Kinda looks messy. So I popped out the usb port from the dash and it looks like this.

I then removed the radio and these are the connections on the back as well as the radio model.

What I am looking for. I would like to find a Y cable os some sort that would allow me to plug the wireless car play in behind the dash but still be able to split off and retain the in dash port.

Now if this is not possible would I be able to buy a single cable to go from the stereo to a female usb plug maybe like below that I can just put behind the stereo in the dash. Then I assume I would need to buy an aftermarket usb port that fits my tacoma off Amazon and the ndirectly wire it to the fuse panel. I know this would not retain the stereo connection but would allow for charging correct.

Any help or direction would be appreciated at this point. I have spent 3 nights looking for the Y cable scenario but not sure if it exists.

I went through the same thing when I first got my truck with a wireless CarPlay adapter. I’ve had this cable saved for a few months now I found during my research. Won’t split it, but will allow you to run it behind the dash. PAC USB-TY1 Toyota/Lexus OEM USB Port Retention Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F0YJ49O

I ended up just mounting my CarPlay module on the underside of the dash with Velcro and ran a 90 degree cable to clean it up. GELRHONR 90 Degree USB Type C... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVYPKYW7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Had to shave the connector down a little to fit the recessed USB C on my module but it looks 100x better and is easily accessible.

AaronArf thanks for your reply. If I did it the way you have done the first cable will do me no good correct. If I velcro it to the underside of the dash I wont have to change anything behind the radio correct.

Correct, the first cable is if you want to relocate the CarPlay USB. (I cannot confirm this works. Found in another thread)

The second cable worked for me, it may work for you depending on your module. I’ll take a pic of how my set up looks tomorrow and post.

What wireless adapter are you using. I just returned a Carlinkit because it wouldn’t connect reliably

I just used a 90° usb adapter and velcroed it to the top of the phone charger bay. It’s virtually invisible and while I lose the usb port access for other things, I have no regrets. This wireless CarPlay adapter has been amazing. About 1 full year of use and I think I’ve had to unplug it 3x for not auto connecting in trick startup.

Here’s a pic of mine. Same location as gimble but different approach. (New cable instead of adapter)

You'd be looking for a USB Hub (plenty of small ones available for use with laptops), but I'm not sure how happy you'd be for two reasons. First, I have no idea how the radio would behave with two devices trying to access CarPlay at once. You could wind up with a duel, or neither working. Second, I don't know what the power output of the radio is. It likely isn't expecting to charge multiple devices, or even a hungry tablet. Plus the wireless module is already drawing power for compute, GPS, and wireless (not sure if that's using WiFi or Bluetooth).

I think your best option to maintain use of that port is to get a 12v to 5v step-down converter. Plenty of them will be factory-wired with a USB output (under $10). Wire that into the 12v accessory circuit, and attach to the original or a replace keystone jack (under $10 for a multi-pack). You could also swap to USB-C that way, if it's a better option for you.

I'm having a similar issue. I'm trying to adapt a Kenwood dmx958xr head unit to the standard Toyota USB port (part number 86190-0R010) but am having issues finding a proper adapter. Crutchfield is at a loss for adapters, and Idatalink has a ACC-USB-TO2 but sourcing it seems problematic. I am wondering if anyone found a solution to adapt from USB to the special connection on the Toyota part.

I know bezomart has cheap one but was trying to connect with the OEM unit.

Does anyone have know if the newer Tacoma have the same plug?

If you did not already find the answer to this or if anyone else stumbles onto this thread. I just installed the Idoing head unit in my 23 and had the same issue.
If you use a adapter at the other end of that cord (its the gray plug in the 4th picture down on the original post) the iDatalink Maestro Acc-USB-TO3 will adapt that to a standard usb.
