Are non-hub centric wheels a bad idea?

The wheels I want are non-hub centric. Says they come with plastic center spacers. No so sure..

Also- Is -6 offset OK without frame chop? (265/75R16)?

I have non hub centric ones, specifically Vision Turbines. I love their look and they work mostly fine with the hub centric rings that you mention, but I regret getting them. I have aluminum rings instead of plastic, so maybe that's part of the problem I've had, although I'm sure plastic ones have downsides too. One of mine got stuck to the wheel and the shop refused to pry it out because they said it could break. I had to order another set and go back a second trip to the shop with the new rings just in case the stuck one broke. The stuck ring did indeed break when prying it out they said, so going forward I'll just always keep spare rings in the truck I guess. It's one thing for this to happen in a shop setting, but it'd really suck if it happened changing a tire on the side of the road or something. It's simpler to just to buy hub centric rims the first time in hindsight/my opinion.

Edit: not sure about your offset and rubbing. I bet it depends on whether or not you have mudflaps and what type.

As long as you switch the lugs, and the bore is larger than the hub bore specified its fine.

The centering rings arent even necessary. It's just to prevent error when installing them. People used to blame the lack of rings but it was often poor castings or poor installation that caused vibrations.

I'd run the rings if they come with them, but its not needed.

This. I have them for my FN Pro wheels with a 109 mm center bore. They center perfectly with no vibration issues.
Hub centric might make a difference in wheel strength for extreme off roading but thats just pure speculation on my part.

Edit: I run zero offset with the stock tire size and I have a quarter inch of clearance. Worst case might need to trim some plastic.

Interesting, I didn't know this, thanks. I may drop my rings in the future then. Can most tire shops be trusted to install correctly with no rings, or is that something where it kind of depends where you go and who the tech is?

Still use the rings, especially if someone is installing them for you. It's impact guns not seating the rims right that cause issues.

My point is they aren't as critical as people think.
