If anyone has experience using this with the non-JBL OEM head unit to restore bass to a sub, would you mind providing some insight on your setup and its overall performance? Pros/cons

I’d be interested in the performance of similarly-priced alternatives as well.

    Thanks.

Not sure on the entune 3.0, but if its similar to entune 2.0 (2016-2020) then there is no bass cut off, there is actually a small boost through the whole volume range.
I measured the output of the factory headunit with pink noise here in this thread.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-entune-audio-curve-graph.608790/

But if you suffering from low bass output from a after market sub that you installed, it might be due to where you got your signal from. If you tapped off the rear speakers then your sub will not produce much bass at all due to the low power output of the rear speakers.

Thanks for the reply. I’m in a 2023 Tacoma and tapped the “full range” front speakers using a very basic LOC. The bass rolloff is significant in tracks with 30-50hz bass. There is clearly a filtered signal coming from my etune premium non-JBL head unit.

Rockford 12” 300w powered sub. Analyzed pink noise and 40hz test tones as well as several music tracks. Everything track that doesn’t dip below 60hz sounds fantastic. It’s the several songs that do I am trying to “fix”.

So lets quick look at the sub to get the easy things out of the way. There are a few switches on the side and some dials
    Gain - 75%
phase - 0 (try flipping it to 180 to see if maybe you have some wires in your LOC crossed)
input level - LO if you have a LOC, HI if your running speaker wires right to the sub
Auto turn on - what ever your using
    x-over - 80hz
boost - depends on what freq it boosts at, but play around with that to see if it improves.

I appreciate you. I have played with the settings and have it optimized per my preferences, but I planned on another round. My LOC is set too high (both channels at half), but I don’t plan on adjusting that (it’s behind the head) until I install the new device I end up choosing. It is okay so long as I keep my bass knob below 30%. Phase on the box was 180, but it didn’t sound good (delayed, muddy). Remote turn on connected and set to REM on box. Last I recall I have the cross at roughly 80ish. The gain is fairly low and set to the desired level in concert with the front stage. I keep the “boost” at the lowest (turning that up doesn’t resolve anything). Head unit bass, mid, hi all flat. Speed off. I will confirm more precise sub settings after I play around with all of them again in another attempt to bring more lower frequencies forward.

You say your LOC is set to high (both channels at half) Im talking the switch on the subwoofer. Its the switch between phase and auto turn on. You want that set to LO.

I’m not certain, but I believe the input level is set to LO. However, I removed it from my sedan which was connected directly from the speakers so now that I think about it, if I didn’t tinker with that switch it would be set to HI. I will check that first, thanks! I will update after lunch tomorrow.

Fixed! @5nahalf I appreciate you. I planned on tinkering again, but you reminded me I need to stay true to my “trust-but-verify” first approach, especially when it comes to my own aging memory.

In my aging memory’s defense the input was indeed correctly set to LO, cross was at roughly 80ish and phase set to 0. However, flipping the phase to 180 did the trick. I think it was in phase with the front door speakers causing some cancellation.

I installed the sub weeks before replacing doors and dash OEMs with aftermarket, but never revisited the sub settings.

Thanks again for taking the time.

I’d still be curious about others’ experience with bass “correction” devices, but at this point for me it is likely unnecessary. I will prioritize replacing the head down the road.

This is why I always go over the free easy checks before actually checking into other things.

Glad its all working for you now.
