Hi, I recently got a 2022 taco. I live in Georgia. I want to take very good care of my truck so it lasts me a long, long time. Anyway, I know rust is an issue on tacos. Since I live in an area that rarely sees snow (and thus no salted roads), is rust prevention super necessary? I'm inclined to do it anyways but I figured I'd get opinions from folks smarter than me. Thanks in advance!

If you don’t see salted roads you’re wasting your time and money

I live in Va. and use Chemical Guys Bare Bones under body spray. It keeps the frame and under body looking new and going on 5 years. I apply in about every 6 months as its more for looks but I think for what little I drive my truck it works great.

I’m in the northeast, this is my fourth Toyota. All three prior succumbed to rust. I was in therapy for a while from rust anxiety but I’m doing better, the voices in my head are gone now.
That said, if I lived in Central America I would still do some type of corrosion protection. I’m almost convinced if you put a piece of stainless on the frame it would rust lol.

I live in SW Ga. I had a 2001 tundra for 20 years without a rust issue. I don't feel the need to rust proof my Tacoma.

You have 40,000 plus invested in it. Protect the investment. Lanolin based protectant such as fluid film, wool wax, or surface shield, cosmoline based, paraffin based, petroleum based, Krown, and now even the bedliner people LineX have a product... Car manufacturers are just that, there to make an automobile and make a profit... They are not there to make it last. that is up to us. It is your call but, for me, I am protecting my investment, to give it at least a chance to make it to 10 or even 15 years with no corrosion issues to frame, body, suspension. It is a labor of love. treat the vehicle right, it will in return treat you right. For those saying they dont live in salt areas, unprotected metal, seams, voids in sealant, and assembly adhesives will allow moisture, to get into those areas, and by the time you see it... it is too late. Like Smokey Bear... only you can prevent rust. Ski

You got nothing to worry about in the south. If you ever take a winter trip through snow you can buy 4 cans of Fluid Film and coat the bottom of the truck real well. The only real upside to applying FF in the south is that it keeps all the nuts and bolts nice and serviceable.

As someone from the northeast who battled it for years, and now just outside of savannah, don’t bother

It’s ridiculous the condition 20 year old vehicles are down here compared to 5 year old ones up north

If you have a boat you launch in saltwater be careful otherwise don’t do anything

I have lived in north Georgia most of my liife and I don't do anything for rust prevention other than what came from the factory. I've never had any issues with rust on any vehicles and that includes a lot of Toyotas. Save your money and go fishing!

I would. We all have moisture and air and we all know what that equals to. You said it, you want it to last a long time so why not take the measures.
