    Have a great day everyone.

Finally getting use of my right hand I had a bad reaction to a treatment I had on it and for a while I couldn't even hold a spoon with it. So I wasn't able to do much with my phone. I may go back to catch up. Im trying to put off surgery on it. I have 2 options neither are good. Replacement or fusion. One of the main reasons I retired.

It's amazing to me how the public has been indoctrinated to think that dealerships won't negotiate. That MSRP is set in stone... and often that there are "shortages" so dealerships don't have to get rid of cars. Very few dealerships own their cars and they are under a time constraint to sell them. In normal times there are always cars that are timing out, that have been on the lot for ninety days or more, and they are just like the ones that are newly arrived but the dealership is motivated to sell them. And the more options a car has, the more room they have to deal... and you can't find an un-optioned car on a lot anymore. As consumers we are trained to believe we have no power and have to take what we are offered. They want us to think that. We are pushed to make quick decisions, to believe that we will miss out if we don't. And the sales strategy has developed over time as a department that shares information and has crafted their game plan, acting in ways that bring them as much profit as possible. Which isn't surprising. They have kids to feed too. But that doesn't mean we don't. Dealerships want us to think they are our friends, and they want us to trust them, and society trains us to be weak and wanting to believe everything without thinking. The last Subaru I bought was a Turbo Legacy and I bought it out the door for 8K under MSRP. At the same dealership a good friend went in and bought a used Honda for a couple thousand OVER the MSRP on an identical new car. And yeah... walking out with your money in your pocket is a requirement. That's when they get serious. But you have to convince them that you are a serious buyer and that you WILL be spending your money elsewhere if they won't deal.

Kind of a long rant... but it kills me how complacent the public has become and how dealerships are cultivating an atmosphere of us having to take whatever they will deign to give us.

Nice looking rifle !!! , and I read about that new record being set a few weeks ago . That's very impressive to get a round down range with that much Windage and elevation

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/car buyers. I like the sound of the Costco offering. That company keeps surprising me with how much good they do. I hear it's very fair to its employees, and I know the individual stores are very community conscious. Their gas is Top Tier. Their store brands are good quality. Wouldn't it be nice if more corporate entities were like Costco.

We're still decorating for the holidays. My wife loveslovesloves doing it, which is good because I'd probably just get one of those trees that all you have to do is yank it out of the box and plug it in -- end of story. But I do like seeing all the stuff she puts up. The best recent thing that's happened is that faux candles have gotten to be tolerably realistic; she used to want to put real candles everywhere, which freaked out my fire safety self. The fake ones don't phase me at all.

The pandemic-related production disruptions had a lot to do with recent dealer attitudes I think. But from what I'm hearing those days are done. Inventories are going up and pocketbooks are closing. Plus more manufacturers are getting serious about doing end runs around the dealer. Tesla proved it can be done. Is it Kia that will be selling cars on Amazon next year?

Kurt - the firewood storage looks good. I have a dead pallet jack (the hydraulic started leaking). Enough heavy steel to make a stand to keep
firewood off the ground, and I have some new expanded steel. All are free for the taking if you make it up here. Termites got my last firewood pile,
trying to downsize and clear out the shop! Does the shop need a small 36" Pexto Stomp Shear? I'll probably put it on Craigslist for $600 (paid $500 about ten
    years ago).

Carl - what is the recoil like on that beast? I haven't a clue about what ammo is used, and I wonder if the sheer mass of that rifle helps with recoil. Russian
women with a Mosin–Nagant was deadly during WWII. I fired one, but it kicked like a mule.

Yeah, I heard something about Ammy selling cars. I heard it was going to be Hyundai, but it could just as easily be Kia. Personally, I think we'll lose something if cars are sold "mailorder" with no opportunity to drive them before a purchase or any chance to negotiate.

Thanks, Tom! Firewood IS actually on a metal rack, I just raked stones up close on the bottom. The the other racks are metal as well. I'm afraid that I have no use, place, or talent for metal workings! But thanks!

Got to be a little careful around stacked firewood in Texas Kurt (and elsewhere) My niece and her husband live outside Wimberley and their firewood has become a home for scorpions and occasional rattlesnakes. She’s been stung by the scorpions twice and so far has spotted the snakes before they were close enough to bite. Lots of critters like to take up residence in firewood. Here it’s mostly black widows which thankfully I’ve avoided. I know you know all this but just saying.

All this talk about long range rifles , had me looking for my target i was aiming at from a range day with a few Marine buddies 9 years ago

This target was set out to 200 yards and the orange circle is 3" dia. The black ring is 1.50 inch dia and the bullseye is only 3/4" dia . My rifle is a Savage Axis .308 with alot of mods done to it and 500yrds is what it was designed for . The three rounds inside of the 1.5 dia circle and inside the bullseye is 150 grain rds . The three rounds to the right are after the barrel got hot and also using 180 grain rds

How tough was it to get the stock fender flares off? What are you replacing them with?

The hard part is finding the 10 mm screws underneath. Then, repairing the broken clips inside! The originals will get new gasket, repair, and go back on. The lille orange and blue clips are $12 from Amazon. Enough for all four.

Sometimes it's me that's warped, and sometimes it's the wood. But these are the last of the sticks, and I'm not buying more! Just a little cover.

    20231205_135425.jpg

Because I put the vinyl "roof" on the long way, I wanted a little angle from the middle.

    20231205_141243.jpg
    20231205_142557.jpg
    20231205_142549.jpg

Yup, cut a notch in the middle, and stuck some 90* angles in a vice. Works for me. Just going to sit on top for now. Eventually, I will tie it to the rack uprights.

    20231205_143241.jpg

So, how about that greenhouse ramp? Yep, did that today after getting some paint on it yesterday. Old one went straight to the trash dumpster.

    20231205_103710.jpg
    20231205_103730.jpg

These used to be beautiful, satin nickel hinges. They got used because I had them when I built it in the first place. Not buying new ones - wire brush on the drill, and some primer in the booth!

    20231205_115234.jpg

So, there we go! New wood, silicone door stop sweep on the bottom, aluminum channel sides, and painted hinge. I will clean up the missing paint when I figure out what to do with those restraint latches.

    20231205_150704.jpg
    20231205_150651.jpg

And that's it for today! It's just so exciting around here.

Yep, worthwhile warnings! Ever since that 18' rattler a year or so ago, we asked the city to mow our field out back from the fence OUT, so the critters move to the RR tracks. We see about one tiny scorpion a year here, as they like it drier - like the Hill Country. And I discovered a pretty good Bayer termite and carpenter ant spray that has eradicated the early year swarms. That stuff goes on the firewood, as does bug spray, AND the peppermint and pepper sprays when it gets cold!
