Another new member needing help and advise.

I tried searching old threads and cold not find and answer.

I replaced both front wheel bearings and struts on my 2009 Tacoma TRD Sport 4WD. The passenger wheel rotate but the driver side front wheel only rotate half way. It looks and feel like there it something in the CV axle Assy. getting stuck and preventing a full rotation. I have not replaced the brake rotor or caliper on the driver side.

Helps and advise will be appreciated.

Axle is possibly dislodged internally from too much extension, you need to try and get the axle back in its housing.

So the bearing set is likely separate from the bottom. With only the boot holding.

What I do is rotate the hub/outer CV while changing angles and trying to force the internal cv into the housing.

Thank you for the quick reply and especially the photo. I expected something like this but had no idea what the inside look like or how to attempt that fix. Will give it a go after work tomorrow.

Bishop84, I tried your suggestion but had no luck. Would it make a difference or give a better chance for success if I remove the whole assembly and tried to fix it then?

I might just replace the complete assembly since there is some cracks in the boots. There was also a significant amount of "axle" grease on the wheel hub and bearing I replaced.

Now if I go the replacement route, is there any suggestion to what make or is Toyota original the best option and is it advised to do both sides together?

Just cut the large band off and slide back the boot. Probably pretty easy once you can see the parts interface.

Pretty sure there was an opinion thread recently about replacement part brands for cv/axel shafts with folks mostly leaning towards OEM. I wouldn't fault them, but the price gap is just too tough a pill to swallow, and my confidence in brands like Napa, Carquest, Centric, AC Delco, and so on hasn't been shaken over the last decade.

Dodge brands like Ultrapower and Cardone unless you actively want to punish yourself for cheating on your romantic partner or something.
