What do they call that, sympathy weight? Lol

I don’t have kids as an excuse unfortunately.

Running sucks when you are fat, in case anyone was wondering.

Yea, good ol sympathy weight. Wasn’t a good 30 lbs either. I got strong, but looked like shit. I’m back down 18 lbs from that point, so there’s that.

@PackCon I know you like the medical side of fitness, so:

You may remember I posted a while back about doctor telling me I needed a pacemaker after 40 yrs of distance running. My RHR was dropping below 40 BPM and just happened to be at 39 when I had my 9:00 am annual physical in April. Dr acted like I was gonna hit the floor any minute. I told her I was fine.

But, she made an impression on me. While I didn't go to the cardiologist as she suggested, I decided it was time to put the shoes in the closet and see what happened to my heart rate and BP. You know, let my heart become a bowl of warm jello like the other guys my age :infantry:. Since beginning of June I have been tracking results with twice daily data gathering.

Strange thing. Basically, the only impact has been my afternoon blood pressure trend line is steeply downward from pre-hypertensive to mid-normal range. HR is only slightly different. Not sure if it's not having the stress of fitting in my evening runs or the actual change in cardio. Maybe my heart was just a bit too strong...?

Anyway, it was hard to let go and not train for my local Fall half, but it's done.

Before the comments come about "another running post", yes guys, "I lift bro" and have for same 40 years. Just not for mass.

    Afternoon data:

    Super interesting!

As stated before I’ve let mental health and job stress over take my life. I’ve gained probably 40lbs (I don’t weigh myself anymore). I stopped lifting when my gym closed and didnt get another membership till a year later. Still don’t routinely lift. I also drink way more. I run maybe 3 miles at a time because when you are fat running just isnt as fun.

In the process of getting my shit together.

When I was 150lbs with a six pack, eating well, and running 50+ miles a week I was pre-hypertensive at average 130-140/90-100.

    Now, BP is stellar.
    IDK why lol

There are studies that prolonged running does create some cardiovascular issues. Particularily reprogramming neurons to fire at different rates because of prolonged exposure to sustained periods of increased cardiovascular output. However all those studies also show endurance athletes still have significantly decreased mortality regardless. :)

Thanks for the update I was curious what came of all of that.

After hitting my lifetime goal of 600+ DL, I kinda had a “it’s time for a break” mental hurdle. Going to the gym 4-5 days a week for years while missing family time and fun with friends eventually caught up to the point where I wasn’t even enjoying the lifts anymore.

but I think it’s time finally to get back under the bar.

Still lifting here. Changed my routine and have actually put on some size...though that was not the intent. At this point though, it's mostly rinse wash repeat....there's not a lot new, my lifetime PRs are behind me and it's as much about enjoying the experience as it is about any specific goal.

Anything that states 100% Creatine monohydrate should be good. Besides that I just look for the cheapest one at the store when I run out. “Micronized” is nice meaning it will mix better with liquids, but personally I just it in my morning oatmeal and forget about it.

    Thanks for asking.

Well, after about 6 months of no cardio, when it beats I'm guessing it looks like a bowl of warm cherry jello, but my average resting rate is now 52bpm. That's up from the lower 40's early last Summer.

Damn sure looks like the "everything in moderation" crowd may have distance running to add to the list. 35 years of doing it consistently may not be the smartest move, at least for some of us.

Previously when running would come up in conversation with my friends at work, I'd usually get a "what, you think your gonna live forever". My comeback was always, "No, I just know I'll probably die from cancer, not a heart attack". Always got a laugh. I may have to come up with a new line now that I'm a cardio slacker.

Seriously, I had planned to start some treadmill running in January and carry that until my next physical in April and see where I stand. If it drops back down again, Dr. will probably tell me to choose: pacemaker; or no cardio activities.

Being active will always be more advantages than disadvantageous when it comes to health, longevity, and avoiding disease.

So as long as you are happy and injury free, if you want to run, go run. Any potential negative of running is not going to cause harm greater than being inactive.

I love beer, bourbon, and running. If any of those things add some additional risk to my life so be it. I want to enjoy my life not be constantly worried about optimizing every data point I can.

Go to a qualified cardiologist. Your primary care provider could be the best PCP in the world, but it's out of her scope to say you are a candidate for a pacemaker. So lets take that comment with a grain of salt and talk to the specialist :)

Also go run a few miles for me while I sit out with a broken foot :)

Ha! Funny (well sorta), but I broke my ankle in late October. Stepped down off a 18" porch onto a piece of garden hose that was under some leaves and rolled my ankle sideways. 35 years distance running without injury and BAM! Shit happens. Thats why I said I would be waiting until after New Year to start treadmill. I left the embarrassing part out about being a dipshit.
