If you are hunting in "big woods" with minimal to no ag fields in the vicinity, a chainsaw may be referred as a "dinner bell" to deer!!! As KRAMERICA said.....deer can quickly be attracted to fresh browse that was out of reach before.

The property I am currently hunting on has been logging since the first week of October. Deer don't care. We've taken 5 buck so far. The morning my son shot his buck, they were running the skidder back and forth on the one trail, about 150 yards away. Didn't stop the doe from browsing by, nor the buck chasing them.

Yup, shot a fork horn YEARS ago with my Oneida Screaming Eagle bow (dating myself???) on a logging job while the logger was just out of view. Went to ask him for the key to the haul road gate to bring my truck back in to avoid a looooong drag. He finished his lunch then used his truck to haul my buck out. Then offered me a key to keep - should have taken it as it was universal for every gate on the 12,000+ acre timber company property I hunted!!!! Hind sight is 20:20 right??? I would have had almost exclusive access throughout.

I know people who bait where it's not legal.

I don't bait in VA cause we can't, I do in NC where we can. Food plot in Virginia works pretty good though.

Does hunting under an oak tree when acorns are falling count as hunting over bait?

I guess it depends on if the deer are feeding on white oaks under your red oak tree or not o_O

Not judging those who do bait where it’s legal. Just pointing out some choose not to do it even then. You can’t guarantee if, where and when an oak is gonna drop but you got a mighty good bit of control over where and when a corn pile is gonna be.

I’ve killed deer in active logging areas 15 minutes after they shut down for the day. I think they get used to conditions fairly quickly.

I remember when an onieda bow was like the Chuck Norris of archery. I missed my first archery deer with a bear whitetail hunter with those wheels on the back. Shot like at least 100’ per second lol.
