That’s weird you mentioned this cause I’ve always felt the same and wished it could always feel like that. Truck definitely ran noticeably better when cold, pulled better and would hold gears better as well until it warmed up. I’ve had mine done a little over a month now and I think it definitely runs better and very similar to that now. Truck got noticeably better after 3-4 tanks of gas too and relearned I think. Only thing I’ve noticed that I don’t like is when the truck is cold it’s jumpy when starting out slow and maintaining at slow speed like in a parking lot etc. When it gets warmed up it goes away though. Overall it’s badass and wouldn’t hesitate to get it done you’ll be happy with it!!

 

Still very pleased with the tune overall and it is money very well spent. Having said that, it's not 100% perfect, but nothing in life is. Every now a then I get a hard shift into 4th when accelerating, and sometimes it feels like 4th gear doesn't hold long enough before shifting into 5th. Honestly, the best my truck feels (to my liking) is when I drive around town in 4 manual instead of D. The shift points are perfect and super smooth all the way up to around 40 mph before 5th gear needs to kick in. I also noticed that it shifts better after a battery reset but then it isn't quite as good after it "learns". I don't know if this is something that can be fine-tuned, but overall I'm super pleased with the way the truck operates now. I still recommend this tune.

 

Got tuned on Saturday, went with lite/mild. Overall the drivability is definitely an improvement. However, it almost seems like it lugs MORE down low (under 40mph) and I noticed some shudder at 30mph going up a hill today that I’ve never felt before. Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if I should have it reflashed at mild/medium. Also my truck has spark knocked since the day I got it, just like my last one, but never when the temps are under 70 degrees. I’ve noticed it intermittently the last few days even when it’s 30-40 outside. This again makes me think it’s lugging harder down low now for some reason.

 

I have a 2nd Gen and have it set on medium because I like the more sensitive throttle response. I still get the lugging that you're talking about. That's kind of what I was trying to say the other day in my post above yours but you explained it better. I noticed again tonight that it seems like 3rd gear holds too long and/or doesn't down shift into it from 4th soon enough. I do a lot of driving in the 35pmh - 45mph range and this is right where I am finding these issues. When it lugs down, I have to press the pedal halfway down to get it to finally shift down a gear. It's a bit annoying tbh but I can live it because everything else is fine. The sensitivity, power, and highway driving is where it shines. If I'm in a area of town where it's 45 or lower, I found driving in 4 instead of D is how I wish it would drive always.

 

I normally drive in S4 or S5 around town, but I’ve been testing the tune hoping I wouldn’t need to anymore lol. They do drive better in S mode both stock and tuned it seems.

 

The shift points are better for me in 4. The truck seems like it's trying to hurry through the gears to find 5th. I also noticed that it is better after a battery disconnect, but once it "learns" my driving than it gets worse. I realized this after getting my truck aligned when they disconnected the battery.

 

How often are there updates, How long before the next v10, Cost on a update?

heading to charlotte next week and contemplating contacting that local tuner (although being holiday might squash that idea).

I honestly dont have much issue stock but I’ve never left ect s5 either and mostly drive short trips with an occasional 10hr drive (18’ has 30k). What flavor would mimic ect s5 (or slightly more)? Mild or medium. I’d set tuned ect 2 steps higher.

 

I would contact them and just run your concerns by them to see what they say. I know the 3rd Gen acts a little bit differently with the tune than the 2nd Gen and vice versa. Fit instance I don't have an ECT function so it's just 9ne setting for me.

Has anyone ever requested some changes after a regear? I finally threw some 5.29's in my 2.7 turd gen. Made the world of difference, truck finally drives as it should for a little 4 banger. At times with the added torque i can feel the engine is pulling strong but with the given throttle input it will kick down a gear instead of letting it put more of a load. It could use a smidge more throttle input before a downshift now with the gears.

@JustDSM So do those of us that live in CO and have an OTT need to get updated tune files from you to avoid the hassles documented in that thread above?

 

I don’t want to foreshadow too much, but we will have more to share here very soon on another solution aside from what I share below. But for the time being, if your location requires a CVN check the options are as follows:

You/your tuner can flash your ECU back to stock using the updated files in VFT (files dated on/after 09/27/2023) to return the ECU to the OEM calibration without VFT encryption which will report the appropriate “true stock” CVN/Cal ID.

Or install a spare ECU with the appropriate file so your CVN/Cal ID report appropriately.

With either option, you will want to ensure you’ve allocated enough time to complete the required drive cycle to allow your readiness monitors to “complete”.

Unfortunately there’s no way to get around the CVN check legally. If the file is changed in ANY way from OEM it will generate a new CVN and that will flag you come inspection time. At the time of this posting, we are only aware of the select locations in CO implementing the CARB standards where Cal ID/CVN’s are verified.

I’m running e20 - e25. 3.5 - 4 gallons of e85 and the rest 93 on an empty tank. E85 is quite cheap where I am.

I had this applied on Saturday and it is a worthwhile update.

I found the revised throttle helps with smoother shifting with the manual (on Spicy) and mellows out low speed parking lot driving while retaining the overall feel.

It does feel even more refined than before.

Was having trouble trying to be "smooth" with clutch engagement and having the medium throttle setting. Was thinking mild throttle would help. As it turns out, there was an update in June for us MT trucks. Got the update and much smoother now. Really didn't want to go to mild throttle.
